I had one 55 years ago, a great little moped, stick a bigger carb on (2mm bigger) open up the ports and open up the inlet manifold (A dremel is best) you will be amazed at the power increase, you can remove the exhaust baffles but shortening them and repacking them will do and keep it quiet, I paid £8 for mine back in the day, it was almost brand new, 150 miles, being a "B" plate it's from the Manchester area,

Great work, I think the amount of work you are faced with would overwhelm me! so well done for taking it on is such a positive way. Only just discovered your channel and it makes a nice change to hear the noise of the work being done as opposed to blaring horrible music as employed by many other channels. I'm in the process of restoring a 1963 mini which I've owned since 1966, I re-shelled it in the the very early 1970's and used a cavity wax (Dinitrol) which has done an excellent preservation job so the resto task now requires is quite minor. anyway I've subscribed and look forwards to watching your mini pick-up progress.

They are yes, I've got a mix of heritage and magnum in this so far. I'm of the opinion that you need to assume all panels need adjusting. Just one of those things that you've got to deal with, and there's no guarantee that each shell is the same anyway so perfect fitment is never guaranteed!

Hi Ed, this is HowardT at @Wheels_of_Interest and your video on this is perfect timing for me! I saw you on @life_on_cars, working on the Rolls and we have a Clubman Estate (to be revealed on our channel very soon). We started work on it a couple of years back but nothing since last winter. Now it is back at the top of the list and I have two questions: 1) How do you get on with zinc primer and MIG? I always have trouble with it spitting and messing about, so have been using the copper weld through primer instead (I recently finished a Suzuki Jimny doing this on my channel). 2) I am considering using a spot welder exactly like yours (assuming yours is 240v); and have researched a bit on them before I buy one. How do you guarantee a strong weld with only hand pressure on the tips to keep the surfaces together while heating? My main concern is the strength because we are putting in a full floor pan from Heritage (reasons for this will discussed in the episode) and I am flip flopping between plug weld and spot weld. Your thoughts would be welcome. PS; I thought ours was bad but I can see lots of old repairs on yours, something that we haven't got, it is nearly completely original except for one horrible over-sill and a couple of old "MOT repairs". Keep up the good work, I will be following with interest, HT 😊 kzbin.info/door/pXOnNSB-DjVRQafp6nKeGw

Hi Howard! Thanks for getting in touch! I look forward to your videos! The primer I've never really noticed excessive spitting, maybe there's another factor affecting it? Gas type or brand of paint maybe? I've not used the copper one before so I can't offer much of a comparison. I use the Hobby Weld gas if that helps you at all. I found you have to leave the paint quite a while to make sure its dry before working with it. The spot welder is still quite new to me also I'm still learning and playing with it. Some newer machines have a timer on that you can set depending on metal thickness which ensures a strong hold. Mines too old for that but I spent an evening with some scraps in the vice practising and got the hang of it and a feel for how long to keep them clamped. Mine is 240v and it gets to a point where you can see the metal heating up to a strong orange/ red glow and it starts to spit just a fraction. I found that when you've reached that point, it's a good weld. I can't pull them apart and I've had a lever in and it's nice and solid. Other machines and arms may be different but I guess its just experience and confidence, just like a mig. You'll get a feel and be confident when your doing it. If you can get one I would fully recommend it, as it saves so much time! And looks alot neater too!! This pickup has had quite a life! There's filler everywhere and there's not alot of panels that are okay anymore aha, but I'm sure you know, minis can always rebuild so I just have to keep plodding on!! Many thanks! Ed
@EdsMiniEmpire29 күн бұрын
Also, on the spot welder, mine has a spring In the handle which I think increases the clamping force when you squeeze the handle. I kept the 2 panels clamped together with mole grips and moved them along as I went so the panels were touching before the spot welder comes on too
@Wheels_of_Interest.29 күн бұрын
@@EdsMiniEmpire Thanks, Tom Shorrock at TCR KZbin was using the copper stuff on his Clubman and I find it welds better for me, but I think Zinc probably has better anti corrosion properties - swings and roundabouts. PS: I use Adams Gas. It may be the paint not fully cured though...... Spot welder looks a good idea, but the whole reason for putting in a complete floor is to minimise the work and ensure it's square and strong so don't want to compromise it with poor welds when fitting it, again it's swings and roundabouts....
@Wheels_of_Interest.29 күн бұрын

Theres not many panels on this that don't require work im afraid! I've already replaced the lower half of the bulkhead, requires full front end including inner wings, full front floor pan, full rear load bed, rear bulkhead, rear arches, rear quarters! Really the only bits left that are good are the roof and pillars and upper bulkhead!

hi, i got same noise last month on left side, if just dismount and put few washers in ablsorber, may that fix problem as well without new absorber and topper?
@EdsMiniEmpireАй бұрын
It's probably not worth it as you will already have the parts off to replace. The top mount was only about £25 from Ford. The damper may reuse if it's not worn internally. Personally I think it's worth replacing both as the damper may be damaged from rattling about. The washers wouldn't be a permanent fix and it will return

Nice video Ed. I don't have wash wipers on my S202 but I do have them on my 190e so this video could be a useful resource if ever they pack up working. Well filmed, clear narration/explanation. Useful to see how the motor is attached, seems a little more involved than I expected, but at least its all straightforward. My S202 headlights are crystal clear even after many years, unlike the modern light units which fade and yellow. I think it's because the S202 lights units are made of good old glass as opposed to the modern plastic lenses. What's the torch you're using, looks really bright? I like the car tatoo too, ha! Ooh tantalising with the bike eh! Btw, the Mercedes engine sounded soooo smooth!👍😎

Cosmetically challenged, but I love my S202 C200 Elegance which is in the same colour as yours, I only bought it as a temporary measure....that was 11 years ago! I was so impressed with how smooth and easy it was to drive, with seamless gearchanges and torque always in the real world range that I ended up keeping it. It's never failed to start. Like you I changed one broken coil spring, mine was on the rear, pads, discs, a wiper motor (my fault, I tried to operate it when screen was iced up and wiper stuck to the screen), an alternator refurb, couple of control arms and a battery, front jacking points welded, that's it in 11 years. I've driven the length and breadth of the country and as you say, got out the other end relaxed. Wish mine had heated electric seats too. But I do have cruise control and speed limiter. Would be nice to see a POV driving video or hear the V6 engine? What a lovely young man with great taste in classic Mercedes. You should check out an S124 300TE with self levelling suspension!
