Underrated ,great screen actor , played bad guys so well , when he disfigures Gloria Grahame with scalding coffee [Farewell my Sweet] or his ice cold hitman in the Killers and Point Blank ,but played comedy roles in Cat Ballou and a similar drunken character in Shout at the Devil ,always watchable and interesting in any role.

I showed both these films on 35mm when i was still an apprentice Cinema Projectionist away back in the day in Aberdeen Scotland . We only had two daily performances of OLIVER due to it's running time . If my memory is correct OLIVER was a 4 track mag print All projected via Westar projectors with reel changeover set up and Peerless carbon Arcs and Westrex sound stereo system . Those were the days ! I still have both those scope trailers in Super 8mm too but i can't recall the colour having that blue tint . It's a shame about that slight image cropping top and bottom though on OLIVER . I also have the OLIVER scope trailer on 16mm too thanks to Derann Films . Thanks for posting this Graham .
@grahamritchie7508
@grahamritchie7508 11 ай бұрын
I think my video camera setting was a bit off causing the image to show more blue than it should. The Derann 16mm print would have been the better way to go, hopefully some day, someone will modify a Super8 aperture plate, so with a turn of a knob it opens up top and bottom, that's if the lens rear element can take the bigger image.

I learned my skills as an apprentice cinema projectionist away back in 1969 operating Westar 35mm projectors . I was only 15 years old then and little did i know that one day i would actually own one of those machines in my home . Also little did i know that later on in my career as a fully qualified time served cinema projectionist i would be operating the Rolls Royce of cinema projectors the Philips DP 70 dual gauge 70mm / 35mm machines . Sadly i no longer have the Westar due to a move to a smaller home .

I have just bought my fourth GS1200 and generally not had any serios issues except for the Xenon version that gave me no end of problems, so it is good to know there are blokes like you around who can offer their advice and experience to others. So, thank you Graham, much appreciated.

One of the things that is most important that you most likely be aware of, is the wear on the top green guides and the black tensioner below the bottom sprocket . I have modified them so hopefully they will no longer scratch film. I like the GS1200 Brian, but also aware what can happen to film due to wear on those guides. I just moved my GS1200 today, I had forgotten how heavy they are., anyway all the best with your projector.

Seeing all of those old airliners brings back so many amazing memories not to mention the inside of the Ansett NZ domestic terminal. I remember that like it was yesterday! I have a 40 year old GS1200 that I just pulled out of a closet where it had sat for 15 years. A bit of cleaning and it is running pretty good, except the take up hardly turns. I fear I might have gotten oil into the motor, so I guess I will need to open it up, but I am worried I will only make it worse! Is there any kind of clutch between the motor and the gear below the take up? The motor seems to spin, but the gear hardly turns. Jon

WOW Graham. The Print quality is amazing. How? After all these years. How much was that print. There must be some scratched or wear on the print. Maybe cause of the "CAM" I am unable to see scratches/lines etc. Where did you get a copyif this film. How many films do you have in your library of 35 mm. So cool buddy. Thanks. I was there opening day for this film. I wonder what other titles you have, and are you still collecting more, alwasy on the look out. Again. How much would that Projector be. I have already asked on another post of yours. But asking again just incase I am floored that its almost 100 years old and working. I wonder how much work you put in. Also if you documented it anywhere on the net or youtube. Thanks. - Toronto, Canada.

@@grahamritchie7508 thank you for your response. Do you own any others. Anything you have purchased. I have a dedicated home theatre, 3D, 2 level seating, LED Projection. Not a fan of DLP. Rainbow effects really bother me, and could also bother others if they notice it. But WOW Buddy...to have your own REAL PROJECTOR and be able to show the MAGIC of MOTION PICTURES they way it was meant to be seen. WOW. Maybe I missed some info. I will watch your video again. Did you buy the projector. Do you know what that projector would cost to buy. Thanks again. I amd going to hang around your channel to see what other things you have poster. And possibly subscribe.

Your welcome Mike it sounds as if you have a really nice home theatre, Video projecting is really where it is at these days. I notice you mention 3D, I use a little Epson for 3D and movies like Jurassic Park really look great. Jumping back to Dances With Wolves, I did project the blu-ray, but quickly lost interest when the English sub-titles "when the Indians speak" went of into my bottom masking. I could have adjusted things, but went for screening the 35mm print instead, thinking when the sub-titles came up, now that's better.

Graham I have since discovered how you became the owner of what was soon to be Scrap. So does that mean you paid nothing for it. And also how did you get the print? How much does a print cost you. I am really impressed and now that I know you were a projectionist it has answered many questions. Bravo Buddy, good work, must be a joy, and it sounds like it is. I will keep going through your videos. I am curious to see you home theatre arrangement, seats, any sound proofinig. While growing up most of my friends were interested in Sport, Cars, Music. However I had a passion for movies. And it all started with Star Wars and having my mind blown as a 8 year old. And it made me film, eventually video creater. I do Graphic Design, Audio / Video editing. I even create my own theatre bumpers, which I laso have manged to convert into proper 3D for when it is needed. I am not a professional carpenter or builder. But I did alot of research and carefully took about 3.5 months when I built my theatre. The plan was to move in 10 years, so I will be leaving it all behind. With plans to make a new and improved theatre, My design was a simple one. Where I concentrated on presenting the visual and audio of the room without any images or posters in the room which would take away from have the optimal movie watching experience. Front row would be like IMAX, and the second Back Row many would say is the best seat in the house, But I designed it so all the seats are great. I called it the iMIKE THEATRE. As in IMAX and not iPHONE.If you do a google search for "The iMIKE THEATRE Build you can see my documentation of my build. After upgrading year later to 3D, I created a 3D projection optomizing Bluray cause there were none at the time, and gave it to the forum and inter for free, I looked at and tested 4 different kinds of projectors, because the Technoloy was new I ended up going through 14 projectors cause of thins that I would notice after my test etc. And because I was using customer support in America (Apparenly I heard that they are more understanding then my Canadian offices) they appreciated my tests and feedback. They offered me the soon to be released 2nd version of their Projection, Extra 3D Glasses, and another bulb. In the end Fantastic, zero flaws EPSON 3020. Sorry for the long read. But figured we could both geek out discussing what seems to be a passion for the both of us. Google = iMIKE THEATRE BUILD. I don't know if I can post a link here but I will try. www.avsforum.com/threads/imike-theatre-build-my-first-theatre-project.1434446/

Went to your link Mike its brilliant, you did a fantastic job, its interesting you mention your daughter saying along the lines that they have lost you to that room. Years ago my family accused me of being anti-social, always out there never inside with us they said. So to fix things I thought OK I will spend more time with them watching TV. The thing was I wanted to watch the history channel, they did not. It got to the point my son would hide the TV remote so I could not watch what I wanted to watch. I gave up and went back to our wee home cinema, everyone was now happy, and never heard the word anti-social again. Its been a lot of fun though and we and others get enjoyment out of it, and that's what its all about.
