I use white acrylic house paint or any other colored leftover acrylic house paint for my selfmade gesso, yet I do prefer white as white makes colors of the paint added in my painting to pop. It actually doesn't make sense to use expensive art paint for making gesso. So house paint will do and might even be better. 🤔

When l use just a small amount of anything from a bag, like the plaster, l dip the measuring utensil ( cup, spoon, etc.) in the bag. Using a knife, l level out the amount while still in the bag. Much less mess!

How long does it keep in the jar?
@mytherapyroom8 ай бұрын
If the jar seals well, I’ve had mine stay good for a year. It just needs to be stirred before using again.

Is adding water a no-no, cause I added some to my baby powder mix because it was to thick and chalky and it became like starch with water, you know, when ya hit it, it's hard like rock but when stirred gently it's very runny. Why did this happen when I didn't use starch, but used baby powder which is talcum I thought???

Good question. I’m not exactly sure.

@safaenafs468211 ай бұрын
I know it is a very late comment. I have a question, I'm looking for a very thick modeling paste to create petals and flowers art. Could you please share a video about how to make it or which one to use
@brennakohlhase4194 Жыл бұрын
Gesso is calcium carbonate and non acrylic paint(tempura), which can be purchased cheaply and mixed together. It’s the acrylized stuff that makes it impermeable and non absorbent. You basically by rights could buy the cheapest water based tempura paint in bulk and add calcium carb(chalk) and get the best gesso super cheap! Adding a bit of matte medium or acrylized primer as a sealer first would make an amazing base on top of wood, Masonite, even artist canvas.

Can poly filler be used in place of plaster of Paris?
@mytherapyroom Жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t see why not as I will also use the pre-mixed poly filler as texture paste.
@seanlovelady4182 Жыл бұрын
This is not a good idea. Waste of MONEY for me. I have a pro mixer from a LAB and it will not get the chunks of plaster out no matter how lone I mix it. Waste of paint and time. I have to dump it in the trash. DO NOT USE PLASTER! That is my vote.

Thanks for your tutorial! I too make alot of my own supplies, as I use quite a but and it is more economical for me! 🙃 I have found that Ready-to-Use Joint Compound works the best by far...it gives deep texture and holds up well!!
