LST? Not a top priority. AFP needs defensive assets, not offensive. Focus more on PN ASW corvettes or PCG big steel OPVs, not a LST until 2030. And, first, arm the 4 LPDs !!

Capability is finally forthcoming, but that in numbers is still behind. The helicopters are fine except for the PN’s choice for the next 6-8 helos. The PN again needs to upgrade even the famed JRC from it’s currently weak operational status. And, with current events with the planavy, maybe the 32 cell VLS on the Ocean 4300, is just what the country needs. The PAF’s MRF dreams are still as distant as ever. Just keep it coming before 2027.

[Re-post & Edit] AFIR the PN fleet desired force mix calls for the acquisition of three (3) Logistics support ships to support at-sea logistics and replenishment at sea. I believed the planned is to acquire either one or two (1~2), LSS with the potential supplier included BMT Group (UK), Fincantieri (Italy), STM Defence or TAIS Shipyard (Turkiye), India, and South Korea. BMT will likely partner with Hanwha Ocean by using their Agair family, while HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), will offer either the Soyang-class (AOE-II) or a design base on the HMNZS Aotearoa (A11). The wildcard IMHO is Turkiye which is not mentioned in the video! However has some had sucess in exporting supply ships such as the PNS Moawin (A39) to the Pakistan Navy and recently was choosen by Portugal to supply two (2) LSS to replace their old ships. Those are design by STM Defence! TAIS another turkish firm help design the TCG Derya (A-1590) a solid design IMHO with a CODOG configuration and can travel 24+ knots with a range of 4,500 nmi. So definitely have potential! As for which design? It will depend on the budget and its dimensions could be comparable to the Portuguese Navy LSS or as large as ROKS Soyang or HMNZS Aotearoa!

For me the best option is the Airbus A330 MRTT for the aerial refueling tanker/transport aircraft with between 2 to 3 being the desired number to support 40+ Multi-Role Fighters (MRF) with both aerial flying boom pick and broke-and-drogue system for flexibility supporting allies and regardless of which MRF the PAF! Also is used by the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) 🇰🇷 and Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) 🇸🇬 although considering the high acquisition cost and risk, maybe it would be best to acquire two to three (2~3) Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker to train and familiarize pilots on aerial refueling. As for the KC-130 I think they can be useful especially if the PAF modified its helicopter with aerial refueling capability like the Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk to extend their range beyond 250nmi allowing for over water operations!

The PAF would probably like to acquire either the Boeing 737 AEW&C or the Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye. But they are probably at the higher end in the market and too expensive to acquire and maintain! The Gulfstream G550 CAEW is another option! But the issue is the G550 is no longer in production and will require a newer business jet like the Global Express! The Embrear P600 AEW&C is probably an affordable option and can be acquired in higher number. But issue is their no Air Force yet operating 340c the type as of 2025! Last the Saab-Bombardier GlobalEye despite costing ~500 USD (or more) is probably the best option for the PAF considering it’s flying with the UAE Air Force and ordered by the Swedish Air Force to replace their Saab 340 Erieye to be donated to Ukraine! Initially the PAF could acquire two (2) GlobalEye and once delivered could proceed to acquire an additional 1 or 2 GlobalEye for a total of 3 to 4! With the latter being ideal while the former the minimum.

The LPDs should have a territorial-focused primary use case: Drone Carriers for UAVs and USVs with effective loitering ranges of at least 150 kilometers. Amphibious assault, HADR, resupply missions and so on should be secondary or tertiary use cases. Likewise, these should be upgraded with ECMS, chaff/decoy launchers, CIWS, MANPADs, and at least 30 mm Bushmaster autocannons.

The MYOAs are a normal part of acquisitions as this country can't pay for any acquisition in one go - that's why there are five-year plans eh? You think those FA-50s were bought in one payment? The Philippines should have Typhon missile systems, SM-6, Tomahawk, HIMARS and more Brahmos missiles too, and pursue building ships, FICM, and drones locally to strengthen its defense capability. The Philippines-US defense alliance is appropriate. facing China's persistent illegal claim of the South China sea, PH EEZ Panatag , Ayungin, Escoda shoals and the Spratleys Philippines Kalayaan Islands, China's growing nuclear arsenal, ICBMs, ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, an expanding large navy, a multitude of militia vessels, and of China's building of artificial islands military bases as on Fiery Cross reef, Subi reef, and Mischief reef. The US should deploy more TYPHON MISSILE SYSTEMS, SM-6, Tomahawk, Dark Eagle, and Patriot missiles on Philippine sites to deter/counter China's aggression. PH-US must build/develop air bases, naval bases and seaports in the Philippines to accommodate their fighter aircrafts, ships, and other assets . The Philippines should strengthen defense ties with the US, Japan, Australia, South Korea, India, UK, France and other like minded countries to uphold the rule of law and freedom of navigation.
