My problem with the idea of a very ancient Adam and Eve is that Genesis says Cain and Abel were agriculturalists, implying that they (and their descendents, based on their occupations) lived in the Neolithic.

Heiser went way beyond the scope of his "knowledge" of ancient languages, proceeding to do mental gymnastics to uphold the lie that there is no such thing as race, either because he also was deceived or afraid to be attacked and ruined by the Pharisees who control almost every church, etc. today.
I can't pass along without noticing the cringe stubbedness of W.L. Craig. He is so entrenched in his OEC worldview because he built his identity inside this framework of cosmological and astrophysics meta-narratives that he took for granted. He built his worldview on those premises and tried to harmonize the Bible on top of those, when the Bible is from another system altogether.
@marcusdumitru2 ай бұрын
Dr. Swamidass is trying to hard here to make dr. Craig to convene on his suppositions. But both are wrong on their frameworks. The God of the Bible, if true, would never work through the mechanisms they propose. It wouldn't dignify His Character. No hominids, no evolution, no trials and errors. Just fresh out of the box perfect creation.

Question about Hardimon's deflationary realism account. Is it deflationary because it takes it that minimalist race could be an arbitrary/nominalist carving up along phenotypic lines that is nonetheless real for the simple fact that it can be correlated with genetic ancestry? That would be trivially deflationary. Or is Hardimon saying that the carving up along phenotypic lines is non-arbitrarily reflecting the underlying reality of race being real at the genetic level (populationist race)? To take Sorites paradox as an analogy, is the heap 'real' because our arbitrary cut-off can nonetheless be objectively measured in units, or is the heap 'real' because some certain amount of sand gives rise to a natural heap?

From my simplistic understanding, what happened is people looked around with their eyes and saw major distinctions between populations around the globe and called the groups races. People went pseudoscientific about it and did terrible stuff. Scholars have since tried to convince the public that our perception of race is essentially an illusion and that it isn't real. Now they want to say that races are categories of people to whom that terrible stuff is done to. This is the grand narrative. So for me, all those definitions about race are merely derivative of its original meaning of whether people can objectively perceive major distinctions between populations around the globe, and we figure out if race is objective i.e., real by seeing if there is a sole biological basis that is causal and explanatory in people's perceptions of race and that's admittedly a difficult job that can't be prematurely dismissed. But if there is that basis, then race is not an illusion at all and people don't have to feel crazy. It doesn't have to be more complicated than that. I mean, that should have been the rational question from the beginning, right? So it doesn't make sense to me to confound its meaning. Please let me know if I missed something.

If Darwinism has been dead for almost 100 years, and Neo-Darwinism has been dead since the 1960's, then what is the correct/current theory that should be being taught and/or challenged? And why does virtually all Scientists who talk about Evolution on the popular level constantly speak about Darwinism as if it is the be all and end all of evolution, and like the matter is settled?

Immigrants are usually a net gain for our country, when they come in like allllll the generations before came in. Not on welfare. But it's not so much the immigrants fault, it's the Republicans and Democrats have created a sort of rigged new socialist/communist democracy system - and threw out the old Republic's Constitution. PS- not used to racism. Where I grew up in the US it was completely diverse in skin color but we never really thought much about it. America is not a skin color.

It is false (and potentially slanderous) to say that Camus' theory suggests Jews as responsible for the phenomenon. You are confusing it with another "white genocide" theory. Yann Moix was sued and lost for making a similar accusation.

10 reasons Adam was not the 1st man 1)Mankind was created on the 6th day - Adam was formed(different Hebrew verb) very recently during the ongoing 7th day. 2)Mankind was created male and female - Adam was not. 3)Mankind were commanded to multiply and fill the earth - Adam was alone in the garden. 4)Mankind were told they could eat of the fruit of EVERY tree - Adam most assuredly was NOT. 5)Adam was commanded to tend and GUARD the Garden(the exact Hebrew phrase used to describe the Levites' duties regarding the tabernacle and it's gold objects). How do you guard something if you're the only person on earth? 6)Gen.3:16 - 19 is NOT saying Yahweh is going to change the physical laws of His vast universe because 2 people on a little flyspeck of a planet disobeyed a rule! He is telling them they are going to have to live like the people in the rest of the earth when they are driven from the idyllic garden. 7)Cain found a wife because there were people living in all the surrounding areas. He did not have to marry his own sister. Yahweh is AGAINST incest. He did not establish Mankind out of incest. 8)The Bible does NOT say people used to live longer in general. The members of this miraculously formed Adamic bloodline were extraordinary in their longevity just as the progeny of the rebellious angels were extraordinary in their size and might. 9)Why are there all those 'begats' in Genesis? The one and only reason anyone has ever traced a bloodline is to differentiate it from all the other bloodlines. If everyone were related to Adam no genealogy would be done. You don't trace a family tree if it's the only tree in the forest! 10) Paul likes to compare and contrast Adam and Christ. Both of miraculous origin, both called sons of God, one disobedient one obedient, one fleshly one spiritual, etc. Adam was a type of Christ in that he was not deceived but laid down his life willingly for his bride. Paul calls Adam the first man and Christ the second man or last man IN THESE COMPARISONS. Only an absurdly literal take on these verses would lead you to believe Adam was the first human being on earth! Is it saying Cain was the Messiah because he was the second man? Is it saying Yahshua was the last male human born on planet Earth making Him the last man? Be sensible! The Bible does NOT teach Adam was the progenitor of the human race. It teaches that Adam was the progenitor of Israel - the progenitor of the bloodline that would result in the Messiah!

The variety of biblical interpretation throughout the millennia is a very good indication that god is a either a very poor communicator or (most probably) that the Bible is a collection of ancient text written by pre-scientific men in an attempt to understand and explain natural phenomenon. One can appreciate the stories and teachings presented in the Bible (and other ancient literary texts) as an atheist - naturalist. The apologetic mental gymnastics must be so exhausting.

We needn't compromise on morals. Progressive Christians promote lifestyles antithetical to Jesus teachings. Now I don't like fundamentalism either, I think it puts up many barriers to accepting the Gospel, particularly against the scientific community; old earth & evolution shouldn't stop anyone from following Jesus. Do they believe he came died and rose again for them and want to follow him? That's where to start! And then they're called into being like him, when the morality aspect comes back into play. Immediately castigating the progressive and labeling them something other or heretics may indeed be hastey and unnecessarily burning bridges when a dialog can still be had. Starting with who Jesus is and moving into what he did and what he taught. You're in a great position here Swamidass, just be careful not to compromise 😉

The Bible is One, Single, Solitary book, and that is the total extent of your evidence to prove your god??? The Bible is Fiction: This 'Bable' book is backed up by absolutely no facts and no evidence for gods! It is not proof for any god(s) The fables are intertwined within historical places and people... eg Egypt and the Pharaohs existed, whereas Moses did NOT exist, and the Exodus did not happen.. ! A 'global' flood never occurred in Geologic history !

In regard to Dr. Ross' so called rebutal, it is not so much that Dr. Swamidass' model is not compatible with traditional reading of Genesis, but that biblical description of creation Genesis (or two different descriptions, to be more precise) is not compatible with the reality.

The bible says none of this. If God wanted us to know that we came from pond scum or apes he would have mentioned it. Evolution has steered more people away from God then anything else since the 19th century. It’s also the reason for the decline in education, governments, families and society as a whole. It’s also the reason the spike in abortions, murder, sexual confusion and moral decline. If people believe they are decedents of apes then that’s how they will treat each other. I think this is straight from Satan!

we can solve the problem of Genesis 4 by assuming that Cain and Abel are not the first children of Adam and Eve. Sex and therefore procreation had been commanded by God before the fall. This is also supported from the hermeneutic point of view. The author of genesis dwelt on the children who then have a later evidence.

" chickens smarter than a two year old toddler " This reminded me of a dumb argument I once got into with my brother on law. He had a dog that he thought was so smart and he made dumb comment on how his dog was smarter than my ( at that time ) few month old baby daughter in her little baby carrier. I told him come back in a year and you'll be able to hold an intelligent conversation with the baby while your dumb dog will still be a dumb dog. A year later the little baby operated a camera and took a good well - aimed picture of him and his stupid dog.

Bad premises based on misinterpreting the evidence lead to bad conclusions no matter how good the logic. Neanderthals did not "make cave art". Eurasians don't have "1.5% of their genes through introgression with Neanderthals". These are based on very faulty inteterpretations of the evidence. I lay out how here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3uvhmiJbLlnlZo But besides what I say (based on the work of a Cambridge professor on the genetics part), Dr. Swamidass's work should also call this into question. Are we to believe what he says about how it is very likely that one of our great grandchildren will have zero genes from our great grandfather, or words to that effect which show how quickly genes are dissapated while genealogy holds, and yet still believe that all Eurasians have about 1.5% of genes from Neanderthal introgression 55,000 years ago? The two claims seem quite incongruent.
