I sort of expected people to be more aware of their surroundings in such a bike heavy place. People just walking or moving their bike in front of you, not staying to one side etc; I really expected this to be uncommon somewhere with so many bikes. I have a lot less people on my normal cycling routes but this is the kind of 'oblivious to my surroundings' I expected was not a thing in the Netherlands.

That place sucks. Need 4 lane roads to drive my truck. These people are living 100 years ago. Notice the cars are small 4 banggers econobox. No wonder they all smoke weed. This place needs to get into 21 century.

Better infrastructure than Japan, though personally, I'd probably enjoy myself more biking through Japanese streets than here.

6:49 A leading woman signals with her hands to warn others of danger. It's beautiful. This kind of civic awareness is never found in East Asian countries except Japan.

It’s actually awesome how people just use bikes normally, it feels like something in a weird utopian movie. I love it!

Don't forget that what you see is a day during the pandemic. We did not have true lockdowns like other countries had but because a lot of people worked from home, the streets were far less crowded than would normally be the case. The start of the video, behind Amsterdam CS, is usually an ant-hill of all kinds of traffic (well, excluding cars that is) and not at all as quiet as in this video.

My dream is to visit Amsterdam because of the bike paths. I live in the largest city in the west (12 million people in São Paulo, Brazil), there are 400km of bike lanes around the city, but the lack of quality in their construction and drivers who don't respect others are the biggest problems. I go out for a bike to relax and come home stressed, it's hard to feel respected in traffic.

Nasci numa Selva Social: Brasil.

Saludos.

Love the steam train sound effects plus the rattling noise. Nice to see a video with all the natural sounds though and not dubbed over. Amazing how many configurations of bikes are out there and how cyclists are catered for with a virtual cycle highway and separate traffic lights at intersections for cyclists, so clean and well organised. Did some cycling in the Netherlands earlier this year (2023) and loved it, amazing though how many people have ebikes even though the terrain is flat. I wonder how they would cope in Wales where you can't go more than a few km without going up or down a hill.
