The eulogies Melinda read could not be heard by those watching online. This is what she read: This is from Linda Childs Salzberg. Margot met Linda when she and Lin were about 15 years old. "I am so saddened to hear of Margot’s passing. She was like a second mom to me for several years. I regret not keeping in touch as Margot and Werner. They were so good to me during high school days and let me live with them for a time to graduate from the school I loved. They treated me like their daughter. I could talk to her easier than my own mother, she was that kind of person. She enjoyed having Lin's friends come over to go swimming and have little parties and they would leave us to ourselves. I don't recall either Werner or Margot ever raising their voices to me or their own children. Boy, she could cook too, especially during their special holidays, and I felt honored to be allowed to be a part of it, except for the cow's tongue, I always had to slice that tongue on a slicer and imagined it was mine, lol. Margot and Werner included me in so much! When Lin was living in Virginia they went to see Hair in Miami. They dressed up a little like hippies in Bell bottom and bright colors. They took me along too! What fun we had! . Margot loved her Pekingese too! My favorite was Bunny. (He was a Pekingese, not a rabbit) He would ride in my bike basket around the block . Margot would come out and wait for us to come home and retrieve her Bunny. There are many more stories, but I always thought of Margot as my second mom and wish I had kept in touch as I would have more memories. Margot and Werner were loved by many." *************** This is from Lin's cousin, Joyce Rosenberg. This was written on the day Margot died. She wrote this actually on her Facebook page, but gave permission for Lin to share at the Celebration of Mom’s life. "My cousin, Margot Levi Herz, passed away today at the age of 98. I feel compelled to say something, not only because of the loss of a good soul, but also because she was the last of her generation in a family that was devastated by the Holocaust. By the grace of God she and her father and mother and brother were able to leave Germany after Kristallnacht and came to New York. She was my father's first cousin and one of his closest friends, and they and their beloved cousin Bella Pfifferling were three of the strongest people I have ever known. I am grateful for their survival and their lives and all they gave me. Sending much love to Margot's daughter Lin and wishing her long life, peace and comfort." This is fron Fran Herz, Lin's my sister in law: "To the honorable people here; Today, we gather to celebrate a beautiful person, my mother-in-law, Margot Herz. She was lovely in appearance as well as in her actions and deeds. When I first meet Margot she accepted me with warmth and unconditional love. I knew she was a wonderful mother as her son, Ray, was a caring and considerate husband. I am forever grateful and thankful to God for bringing us together. We spent many joyful days celebrating holidays, and birthdays together. I remember Margot would cook Ray's favorite breakfast of crepes and Lin would make her delicious pecan pie. Margot and Lin made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Margot was a generous, thoughtful and kind person to Ray and me. With her help we went on a Vikings cruise through the Rhine River in Europe. Margot adored her cherished and beloved pekingese babies most of all. They gave her so much joy. She loved to travel and was an avid reader and mahjong player. She was smart, stylish and her priority was the excellent care of her family and home. As we bid farewell, I thank God for Margot and am grateful for the long and meaningful life she led, for the gracious son and daughter she raised, with whom I've had the privilege to share life's journey. I want to thank my dear sister-in-law Lin, for dedicating her life in making sure Margot had the best care possible. I will always remember Margot in my prayers as a compassionate loving soul and find solace in the beautiful memories she leaves behind. I love you Margot and may you rest in eternal peace."
