Simplest answer? Because an electric Dodge Charger is blasphemy. I'm actively looking at used, non-hooned Challenger/Chargers at the moment because I refuse to buy a new Charger on the principle that it removes the most important thing I'd buy the car for - its engine. Yes, you could say that they've evolved and their buyers should too - but not at the expense of preserving their legacy. If Dodge truly believed that the Electric Charger was a superior choice and worthy successor to the regular challenger, they could have just as easily allowed for reduced numbers of the original ICE versions of the car in its final iteration to continue selling alongside the next generation off electric Chargers. Instead, they elected to shoot themselves in the foot by assuming that they knew more than their customers did. The only way I'd consider buying any of the new 6 cylinder ICE Dodge Chargers is if I could send it directly from the showroom to an aftermarket shop to drop a crate engine to, the way God (and likely, the Dodge Brothers) would have wanted it.

You see the only reason I like current Corvette is because they won GTE class including Le Mans 24 hr .... Not because it looks like Ferrari. I don't like that comparison. Saying it looks like Ferrari makes it sound like a cheap Chinese made replica. It can be frustrating as you see what needs to be done and it is not being done. Jeep is having issues with quality, Chrysler is down to one vehicle, they are just slowly but surely taking the life out of Dodge. People want quality, a great experience in their cars and something that gives them fond memories. They workers are the people are paying already and are suffering.

Great video but some misinformation concerning the 1994 LQ1. It was still using batch firing as the previous 91-93 motors. The added benefit of the sequential port fuel injection over the previous multi-port system is how the extra HP was added along with some of the other changes mentioned. The B4U package was NOT standard on the SE coupe, the BYP package actually was. Starting at about 10:20 into the video, that's a BYP packaged SE and THAT package was standard. The previous coupe with the license plate AJ...that's the OPTIONAL B4U package.

One thing to mention, the 89 Grand Prix Turbo coupe was the 2nd W body to get HUD as standard followed only by the Cutlass Supreme in 1988, (optional on coupes, standard in all 50 pre-production Pace Car convertibles). The only GP model to get HUD was the 89-90 TGP during these years, (again, standard on the TGP). Strangely enough, not even the STE Turbo could be ordered with HUD even though mechanically, it was almost identical to it's Turbo coupe counterpart. Starting in 1991, HUD was optional for all trim levels in both coupe and sedan. GM used an outside supplier to develop the first gen HUD system from 88-90, Hughes Electronics. Starting in 1991, GM used their own in house supplier/system developed by AC/Delco Electronics. Both gens are identical internally to the ones used in the Cutlass Supreme coupe, (89-90), sedan, (90-93), and convertible, (94-95). Only their accompanying covers are different depending on the shape of the dash pad in which they're being installed on...GP dash pad or Cutlass Supreme dash pad. The location, style, and how the image is adjusted depends on model year and whether it's a GP or Cutlass. Both HUD gens used the SAME BLUE/GREEN color font for the information being displayed on the windshield. It's very cohesive in the Cutlass Supreme cars as the image matches the color of the dash lights and buttons but a little bit out of place in comparison to the ORANGE/RED dash color lights and buttons for the Grand Prix.

For the 91-93 STE, the LQ1 wasn't standard, it was still optional. The 3.1 was standard. Also, the 2nd gear start feature was standard in all automatic LQ1 optioned coupes and sedans for 1992. Total STE production for 1993 was 834. I'm actually restoring a last year STE. Of those 834, 505 got the LQ1, 100 were White with Graphite cloth interior, and only 2 got luggage rack, HUD, factory CD, and moon roof. Mine is 1 of the 2, a California car so it also has the appropriate California emission codes.

The LQ1 was not just available in the GTP Package, (standard equipment), it was also available in the models such as the GT coupes, STE sedan, and SE coupe/sedan as an option. One more notable thing to mention, the 2nd gen HUD unit debuted for 1991. An AC/Delco unit compared to the previous gen unit developed by Hughes Electronics for the 1989-90 years. Same identical units for both gens that was used in the Cutlass Supreme.

@@Beyondthelensproductions The biggest difference between the 2 systems was the height of the actual HUD unit and where the adjuster switch was located. The first gen units sat higher on the dash pad and impeded the driver's sightline a bit more than the 2nd gen unit. The 2nd gen units had a lower profile on the dash pad and was more sleek. Functionally, the were about the same.

Interesting review. It is interesting the power they get out of the smaller 4 cylinder engines. You did a good review. I did not realize the car was as roomy as it is in the inside. The styling does not say roomy. They are dropping this, that leaves the two Cadillac sedans( CT4 and CT5) in North America. I think there might be something to the Pontiac rumors too. I know GM in China and Middle East has more sedans. I wonder what GM is up to in the grand scheme of things.

I also think it is great he was able to get all that stuff including the clothing from Australia. You both said a lot of truth about GM and some of the choices they made. It could have been different. I wonder if you can get Holden Caprice and Statesman and Calais items and more from Australia. What they did to Holden is still messed up as well as Pontiac and Oldsmobile. It would have been nice if Holden had been sold as Holden in the United States and Canada, but it was not. Again thank you for the interview and the car. They should have brought the Caprice here and sold it as a Oldsmobile and called it Regency or Holden Regency. That would have used the 1997-1998 Oldsmobile nameplate that was on the Eighty Eight line. I do like there is a Holden group and they have meet ups and more. Oh, well....

There are a number of Caprice guys in the States doing Holden conversions on their Caprice PPVs!! Glad you enjoyed our chat!!

@@garyw4211 I often wondered if they were taking the Caprice PPV and dressing them up to look like real Holden Caprice/Statesman. I wonder how many people have removed the police equipment and put in real Holden Caprice/Commodore parts on the interior and exterior. I heard the wiring was different. I am only asking.

West Virginia v EPA is a perfect example of how agencies have been making things up as they go well beyond the letter of the actual law. Same with the atf "redefining" things to make things previously legal into new classifications so things fall under the NFA.

Interesting insight. They have limited the industry and people had to buy what was being offered. Maybe things will change and they will start to once again build the kinds of cars people want. The Americans have walked away from sedans and coupes where the imports have not. The electric car revolution did not happen as they thought.

@@Beyondthelensproductions They need to do a lot more of this on many fronts. Stellantis may be on its way to dropping Chrysler: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIvWfZKPrc2rg7c Room for GM to plan? You be the judge...

I've been hearing rumblings about this, I think that definitely gives GM even more room than they had before. Now the question is, will they capitalize on it?

I mean the Hummer EV came back as a GMC product... Im not saying Firebird would be a good fit in another brand, but maybe they bring the Firebird back as a stand alone car for now and let all dealers have access too it. 🤷 GM and the customer would be best served by avoiding dealer politics.
