Interesting price comparison on the Mac and cheese. Just this week I learned a new way to prepare those boxes with the powdered cheese without the use of milk or butter. I gave it a try and it worked. Add noodles to saucepan and add enough water to just barely cover noodles. Stir in dry cheese packet. Bring to a simmer, cook until noodles are done. Stir often. Add more water as simmering if needed.

Hey Daniel Shiner should never be ‘light’ - just sayin’ lol We use a lot of townhouse crackers. I’ve noticed the cost of those have DOUBLED just since last year. I just bought a case to put in jars. I look forward to your pick of the week. I have found Saltine crackers seem to go stale faster so we’ve gotten to where we don’t even buy them anymore. I do recommend getting them out of the packaging and into something else because they seem to absorb the ‘plastic’ taste quickly. Be safe Be prepared Be Blessed

Good morning, Daniel Great information. I wish you’d talked more about the length of storage in the store bought water. I’ve heard conflicting info about the seepage from the plastic. I’m considering purchasing a Brita type system with filters. Our house line has a filtration system but that isn’t going to work if we lose power. I keep 3 water cubes on hand for boiling to cook & wash dishes. I could boil and use for drinking as well if need be. I also keep jugs cat litter comes in for flushing & boiling for hand baths. You can set them out in the sun to warm. Perfect temperature for quick baths and hair washing. I’m in South East MO about 2 hours west of the boot heel. Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed

The reality is that the answer is that it depends on a lot of factors. You might have well water, and not every water treatment plan is going to be identical so not all tap water is going to be the same. What’s in the water when you store it and how you store it will impact shelf life. You can treat the water you are storing. You might want to rotate it every six months to a year if it is just regular tap water. It really depends.

Hi Daniel. Correct me if I’m not seeing correctly but to your right, do you have boxes of filled jars stacked on top of one another? I was always taught not to stack your boxes of jars. Your info appreciated. I’ve spent the morning dry-packing pasta. Have more to go. With hubby officially retiring Christmas Day, I’ve been planning for almost 2 years for the massive cut to our income. I bought a #25 bag of almond flour. I mix up our breakfast keto cookies in wide mouth jars for at least a year’s supply. Prices over all are only going to continue to rise. Any one who says the average income family can’t do this, really need to watch the videos in this series. I’m booting my channel at some point this month. Thanks for sharing yours and being a part of #30daysofpreparedness2024. Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed.

I'm living in the UK, and i agree wholeheartedly that water is important. We recently were contacted about unsafe drinking water so we now only drink bottled water and boiling water for hot drinks. No one wants to be sick from drinking contaminated water. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊

I just stumbled onto this today. Impressive pantry. I love the mylar and bucket storage for long term and we do use a hair straightener on high setting and it works great. People dont realize how important a pantry is until a emergency situation happens. Ours has helped us a few times with illness, lay-offs and lets not forget 2020. I never thought about mac and cheese though, good to know. Thanks for the great video.

Daniel this was a great idea! I really love the idea of it all being contained in the bucket and easy to transport wherever you go. Plus, if you get tired walking, you have somewhere dry to sit for a rest. This was excellent. Thanks for this great idea.

Some times it is great to have a snak that might be a little healthy like the cherrios used in a snak mix, But you really brought a good point that when your buying food for your general eating its a good thing to think about getting some food that can be used everyday and for long storage just in case of a disaster it becomes a comfort snak or a meal, but provides some healthy options and a good shelf life. Thank you for sharing.

I have a question. Can you use water collected with a dehumidifier? Thanks for sharing.
@twodrshomestead
@twodrshomestead 5 күн бұрын
That is a hot debate topic in the prepper groups. It is water however it is not safe to drink as it is coming out of the dehumidifier. You risk bacteria such as legionnaires disease and the water itself is distilled which is also not great to drink. If you plan to treat it, boil it, supplement it then it could be an option if it is your only option. It is not a great option.
