I’m gonna comment before watching, and hopefully it has some kind of understanding. So when it comes to fashion, like so many things today it has developed subcultures, trends or fads, and I’d believe as one, “not in the know”, that lots of ways to dress have just disappeared? Like I’m very sure that runway shows are just rich people flexing in some way or is actually an artist showing creativity, despite the outfits functional wear being almost zero percent. But I don’t get why people make a big deal out of fashion brands? (I grew up poor, and was raised to either value and be grateful for what I had or make something up, to which I as a kid forgot about it or moved into another shiny idea), but another thing that I wonder about is besides societal pressure is why the clothes from brands like supreme or whatever not seem to have too many differences between their clothing “models, I like tech so idk the word for it but if yk, yk) Ok ima watch it bye thank you!

I really appreciate this take and breakdown. I love fashion, but the runway shows always confused the hell outta me. You explaining it as art really spoke to me. I love art. I love art in motion. I fully get what you mean by looking at the runway shows as sculptures in motion in a way. I had a co-worker recently tell me that all of my tops were cuter than hers. My tops are not expensive at all. Like, most are under $10 if possible. However, they caught my eye, or just made me feel happy loooking at them. Now, not every single piece ended up working out, but the ones that did are great because I feel great in them. So it's a mix of the top being nice, but also me feeling nice, and then people think I look good when in reality I think I look comfortable, confident, happy, and expressive. That's why I enjoy fashion. I would love to afford more expensive stuff, but the point is that you can find style and be unique even from a place that sells something mass produced. Just find what makes you smile or happy when you see it, and pair it with some personal, unique accessories like bangles, necklaces, scarves, etc....

I kinda disagree with the assumption that the upper class is the fashion trailblazer in this example, and that it trickles down to he lower classes. We have witnessed marginalized groups coming up repeatedly with unique creative styles (hairdos/ accessories / jewelry /fabrics/ shoes...) that are then appropriated by the wealthy, severed from their actual origins, and re-marketed to the masses as their own original idea. It's more akin to plagiarism and gives no credit or mention to the original creators. I feel this isn't adressed enough. Just my two cents, but the real trendsetters might not be who you think.

As someone who puts on a pair of sketchers, blue jeans from JC penny, and a solid blue T-shirt with a pocket for 15 years, I am DEEPLY fascinated by all this now. its such an odd, foreign subject to me. its like a cave man discovering fire holy sht. Thanks for this.
