While I didn't vote for the Snake Lair, I did feel bad for those who were expecting one thing (the concept design), only to be shown another at San Diego Comic Con. In general, it's a given that a few odds and ends will change from concept to production, but in this instance, it comes across like Mattel was wanting another play set on the level of Eternia, both in terms of scale and price point. From reactions and commentaries online, as you mentioned, it seemed like most who voted for this wanted a basic clamshell play set, comparable to Snake Mountain and Castle Grayskull, with maybe a few additional features added to differentiate it and justify a crowdfund, like the iron maiden, etc. It's a good thing that the survey was put out after the reveal and Mattel seems to be listening to the mixed reaction. On a side note, hopefully the Horde will have some love soon. I want to say that I voted for the Fright Zone, with Doom Tower being my second choice. I didn't vote for the Snake Lair because it just seems like we've gotten a glut of Snakemen figures over the last year or so, with little to no attention on the Horde, and we also already have two snake themed settings (Snake Mountain and Vipor Tower). When Snake Lair won the vote, one of my initial thoughts was: Oh, well, that will be good for people who wanted a snake play set but didn't have the space or funds available for Eternia (that it would be something smaller and more affordable, around the $200 or $250 range). The reveal that was shown at SDCC completely goes in the other direction.

I for one will not be backing this crowd funder at any cost. I sincerely hope most fans wont either.. That is not what i voted for and what they revealed looks like horrible.. send Mattel back to yhe drawing board so they can get it right.. not just settle for something just because its a MOTU project..

I had a solid plan in place for my display going off the concept art. I also assumed off the concept it was probably going to be around $200 with maybe a figure or 2 and I was ok with that. After the reveal I knew my plan was screwed, but I didn't hate it. Like you it will come down to price for me. I obviously know $200 is out the window. I'm hoping for $300, would MAYBE stretch to $350. But if they're trying to say that vehicle is like the sky car and track from Eternia and plan on tagging this with a $500-550 price tag I'm out. And that's coming from someone who rushed to aquire every snake man release before the unveiled playset so I could have mine fully stocked with characters. Good video and honest unbiased opinion ✌🏻

These definitely are meant to be opened and if you have kids play with it with them like when we were kids. The box art is simply amazing. Mattel always gives us so much. Definitely enjoy these.
