First many thanks for this video, you answered many questions I had in mind, still one if you can explain. I found in a random source that the initial value of f=0.0637.Re^-0.21. if you can confirm this information

Thanks, it is a very good video. But how can I can gain h=8m and T= 12 sn? It is standart? It is open for me? And Where is point of affecting Load? Sea level in strcutural member? Colum is like a cantilever?

Hello 😁, Thank you for your interesting and very clear presentation. From a time series of wave heights, I need to calculate horizontal wave velocity and insert it in the Morison equation… for a certain time and depth, with these calculations I get wave velocity at different position along the wavelength… which one should I consider ? Should I do the integral of the horizontal velocity ? Thank you again ! 😁

Hello 😀Thank you, very interesting. So is it possible to use Morison equation to calculate the force on offshore wind turbine piles ? The diameter is large though (18 m), but considering a wavelenght (L) of 200 m the ratio D/L is still below the threshold value of 0.2

How do you get the equation that has be integrated for drag force? If I am using irregular waves instead, will I still have e^2kz dz? And i can't see where the 2kz came from?

shouldn't we consider the vectorial sum of wave + current speeds instead of calculating wave-induced and current induced drag separately?

Thanks fot the video, Ma'm! It is very useful for beginners like me. My question is how to choose the value of “wave length trial”?it should be given randomly or according to experience?how the different “wave length trial” effect calculated wave length?

You can start taking trial as deep wave length, = g*T^2/(2pi)

Looking at the graphs with the loads as a function of time. What x value have you chosen? I plotted it and I get very similar looking graph for the drag force. But I dont get it for the inertia force. Inertia force is mirrored.
@StudyTips4U

On x axis I have time, plot is done for 2 periods. Inertia force should be the same as I show in my plot. If not then you probably have an error in calcs

@@StudyTips4U 62.2sin(k*x-sigma*t). I understand that you put t on the x-axis. But what is your value for x? If you put x = 1 for example, the function is 62.2sin(k-sigma*t). That is what I did for the record. So yes, I would be interested in how you plot it.

@Keepitsimple2 x is a single fixed position, at that position you calculate force as a wave passes this point, you can assume x=0

Hello Nina, I found this video very instructive, really appreciated it. I've got one question, in the case of shallow water it won't be any integration since the function doesn't depend on z value, everything is constant and remains the same? also, can I have the name of the book or paper related to this topic? thanks!

How should I treat the integration if the WEC works with the heaving motion (w, and w')? I'll integrate over x for the (horizontal) length of the device and solve the integral with cos^2?

Nice informative videos, well done! I'm looking for a way to estimate ship heave for a stationary vessel (on DP) relative to nearby wave buoy data. Specifically I'd like to estimate whether adding ballast will reduce the ship heave (the vessel has several large empty mud tanks for supplying offshore platforms).
