1:00 Mount Margaret does not require a permit unless you want to do it as an overnight backpack. Do it as a day hike. It is usually done from the Norway Pass trailhead and is an 11 mile hike with 2300 feet of elevation gain. Driving to the Norway Pass trailhead is the challenging part of the hike.

But honestly, I was a little turned off because everyone seems so rude on the Facebook pages! BTW, this is one of my favorite drives, which I usually do a couple times of year. About a month ago I went down to Grizzly Falls before the road extension back into the park was opened.The stretch of Hwy 180 you are talking about is not between Sequoia NP and Kings Canyon NP, but is between the Grant Grove Section of Kings Canyon NP and the larger Cedar Grove section of Kings Canyon NP. Nice podcast! The beaches in La Jolla north of San Diego are fun, lots of seals and sea lions. We really like Coronado Island, stayed there before. The Midway aircraft carrier tour is lots of fun, definitely one of my highlights.
