I believe they stayed on the boat for our brief stop that time. It just depends on who checks you in, I guess. But they let us leave her on the boat - maybe because of the storm? Honestly, I don’t remember all the details since that was several years and a hundred check ins ago 😆

pumps should always be pushing through a filter, why do you have it sucking through one and pushing through the other?
@acampbell1988 ай бұрын
My diesel tech told me I should have my Racor before the fuel pump because you don't want gunk in the pump any more than you want it in the engine...he was trouble shooting my genset at the time which would not stay running...turned out to be the pump. Lunasea's set up with the larger micron filter first then pump then small micron filter seems a reasonable compromise for what you are concerned with. Plus Lunasea has the vacuum pressure gage system which will tell him when a filter is getting clogged so he shouldn't do damage to the pump by having it go dry or otherwise destroy itself by trying to pull too hard. Seems like a pretty cool setup to me.

My wife and I have a Rialta as well and would love to do this to ours too! How did you get the seat bolts out behind the 2 front seats? We were worried that it would make the wood uneven! Would love to know how y’all did it!
@SailingLunaSea Жыл бұрын
Are you putting the seats back in? We did not. But honestly, that was three years and several projects ago - so I can’t swear that I remember the details. As far as we recall, we just took the bolts out when we took the seats out and then put the flooring down…
@SailingLunaSea Жыл бұрын
And guess I’m not really clear on the area you mean. The area directly behind the two front seats we just left carpeted. The wood floor started down at the dropoff. Hopefully that is at least a little helpful of an explanation. 😏
@Sammygexperience Жыл бұрын
@@SailingLunaSea thank you for your response! Yes I am talking about the area behind the 2 front seats where your dresser is. I plan to leave the area where the battery’s are still carpet (the same as you). But, no we are not putting the seats back in. I took them out a while ago but left the bolts in. I haven’t tried to take the carpet out. I was in fear that the bolts would make the wood uneven because they raised up over the carpet. I just didn’t see the part where you took the bolts out so was just curious on if you had to lay anything under the wood to make it even/balanced. But my wife and I now see that is it possible and it doesn’t look too hard to do. Thank you for sharing and responding! Happy travelling!

Thanks, great information, and confirmation of what works and what doesn’t. Good to know about the ball valve and the need to have spares aboard. I don’t have the luxury of that space in my Southerly 135 engine bay so had to do a very compact version of your arrangement. So by using Banjo fittings front and back I was able to get the filters just 6mm apart with 3 way valves in between the Banjo fittings. The twin Raycor filters was the intended project and I designed custom sheet metal parts to hold it all together along with a third folded part to allow the whole assembly to swing out into free space at the side of the engine. So with this arrangement the filter selection valve makes it so you can select either filter, both, or none ie shut off fuel altogether. Then I added 3 other 3 way valves so the engine can run from a reserve tank (day tank or drum) in emergencies, and the return fuel is able to be diverted to which ever fuel source is being used. Then it dawned on me that I can make this assembly be a fuel polisher as well, so have a Marco UP3 pump coming which pumps 15 litres per minute (they have larger and smaller ones suitable for diesel and oil) so the final assembly will filter and water separate fuel for the engine, with a full selection range of filter and fuel source options, it will polish fuel in the main tanks and selectively reserve fuel drums of tank, and it will enable the transfer of fuel from tank to tank and tank to drum. The only thing this will not do is have different fuel filters in a row as your design does. This will have a vacuum pressure sender so that the line pressure can be seen from the helm or in the NMEA 2000 data transfer system. The final arrangement will have a light behind the filter bowls to make inspection in the dark engine bay easier. The whole assembly with the fuel pump is two and a half (plus a bit) times the width of the Raycor 500 filter body, and 30mm front and back deeper than the Filter body…plus the space the valve handles take up. Your video, though, gives me confidence that the system will work as intended. Looking up fuel line diameters for engine power, a 3/8 inch fuel line is good for up to 450 HP, so I will adjust the whole system to be suitable for up to 450 HP engines.

Great video and thanks for the detailed explanation and the shopping list with all the ingredients at 9:01. Just one question, is there a reason you chose a multicrystalline solar panel over a monocrystalline? I want to do a similar update but from what I read monocrystalline (although a bit more expensive) in combination with an MPPT controller gives a better result? Also as @kingrafferty wrote below - it would be good to see how to insert a second battery into the "port" battery compartment, the "starboard" is a piece of cake 🙂 BTW, this vid is 3 years old, are you still using your Rialta? Best regards from Europe!

Ok, @RubTN Battle Born Batteries used to have their website set up in "packages" - so you could buy exactly the bundle we have installed. They've changed it up. Now you can just call them and tell them we referred you, and that you want what we had in the Rialta. Make sure to specify the RV not the sailboat :D VERY different systems! Here's our affiliate link (below), if you want to just browse their site. But your fastest result will be to call and just ask them what they put in Sailing Luna Sea's RV. We had absolutely excellent customer service - and they were great to work with designing what would work for us. battlebornbatteries.com?afmc=Sailing+Luna+Sea&Sailing+Luna+Sea&

Realta is a great car, but it has one significant flaw - a gasoline engine and an automatic transmission. It would be much better if they thought to equip this car with Volvo engines 2.4D5244T with a capacity of 185 to 215 horsepower and a torque of 340 Nm. Despite all that, Swedish engines meet Euro5 standards and have a fuel consumption (diesel) of 5.5 liters per 100 km. This is for cars. For a motorhome, I think a figure of about 6.5-7 liters on the highway will be more realistic. But it is still many times better than the gasoline consumption of regular Rialta gasoline engines in combination with an automatic transmission.

If you have ever stayed there and payed at the floating paystation, I helped deploy that for the first time they ever had a water pay station in 2004. l made it to 18 different island while I was over there, 12 of them in the last 30 days where I bought one off the 30 day island hopping passes and had so much fun! Hello fellow Rialta lovers. Im not criticizing the extraordinary effort you went through but I thought I would tell you/others what went wrong. First and foremost, you MUST scuff the surface with sand paper before painting anything. But these cabinets have a clear coat finish as well and then sanding will take care of that too As far as primer, you really need a self etching primer that will bond to the plastic rather than just sit on top. The spray paint that was used is good bit its gotta be applied correctly. Also, the spray tip is craps so good technique will avoid blotching. Start with a very light tack coat, wait 10-15 minutes and apply the first cover coat. Repeat until full coverage is achieved. You will probably end up with a little dust in the finish so for the final step, and to make cleaning easier and significantly increase durability, scuff with 400 grit and spray two coats of clear, made in the same line as the paint. My two cents based on years split between boats and Betty the Rialta. Hope this helps whoever reads this 🥰
