It does seem like nonsense that publicity gigs wouldn't be paid separately. Obviously, plenty of actors sign up for roles and never have to do any publicity. For $50k, the idea that she has to travel to dozens of shows on her own money seems completely absurd. She was a breakout star in a hit movie and now she has to go broke to show her commitment? I've never heard of another industry that works that way.

Monique! It's going to take some other female actress who is smarter, patience, respectful, and intelligent to get you guys the money you need. Why are you going around cursing out and scandalizing Whoopi Goldberg for? She didn't told you what you wanted to hear. You follow Whoopi Goldberg to her dressing room because you did not hear from her what you really want to hear. Now you're scandalizing her on social media. Now those 3 who did you wrong, Oprah, Tyler Perry, and the other man, they should be a shame of themselves. You didn't get no justice from them so now you're trying to destroy Whoopi by throwing her under the bus. You can't destroy Whoopi Goldberg (she is foundation get the hell out of here!!!) for something she have no control over. If you wasn't such a loud mouth vulgar woman you could have started😢 something big with the help from other female actresses. Your big load mouth alone is not going to help you get that money. Soooooo leave Whoopi Goldberg out of your mouth. Respect yourself so people can respect you and trust you. I met Mo’Nique when she was pregnant with her twins. I was at a book party hosted for her ‘Skinny Cooks Can’t Be Trusted.’ I was invited backstage to one of her comedy shows in Hollywood and chatted with her. I was a guest at her baby shower. All of this was before ‘Precious.’ I NEVER saw any of the behaviors that have been alleged about her. She was always kind, gracious, thankful and appreciative. I recall thinking that, like Diahann Carroll, whom I also met, was one of the most polite and respectful actors I’d ever encountered. One thing that gets overlooked in all this was the way Netflix tried to explain away requests to be paid equitably as ‘not going by resume,’ or based on venues that Amy Schumer, Chappelle and others had sold out. Sunny touched on the respect of the Black dollar. And the one thing I will never forget is that after her call to boycott Netflix, I logged into my account and searched Mo’Nique. When her specials that Netflix had the rights to air at the time appeared, beside them appeared specials of the very names of those whom she called out as receiving offers of tens of millions of dollars more than her. That suggested that Netflix KNEW the power of her audience and utilized searches of her archived material that was still extremely popular, to promote the shows of Schumer, Chappelle, etc. BUT, when you searched those other comedians, not 1 Mo’nique special or show appeared in the results. This is when I knew my initial instincts about Mo’Nique were right and I canceled my account!! As for what Mo’Nique was contractually obligated to do, her contract was with Lee Daniel’s when it was an independent film and the promotional duties were domestic. The film blew up… Lionsgate, Tyler Perry and Oprah scrambled to get their companies/names attached. Their additional funding and distribution deals DID NOT CHANGE OR ALTER what Mo’Nique was contractually obligated to do. Mo’Nique asked to be compensated to promote in Cannes, everybody refused. That was no reason for Mo’Nique to be labeled as difficult. Especially when paying for promotion was NOT unheard of at the time. One of Mo’Nique’s biggest critics,, Kevin Hart, asked to be compensated by the studios to promote films he was in to his own Twitter/Instagram followers back in the 2010s. We know this because Sony emails leaked back in 2014 referring to Hart as “whore” for this exact request. Time and receipts have only proven Mo’Nique was right then, and is still right.

So I’ve been in a film that’s coming out soon. So I could tell you a thing about the industry. 1. Monique was never an a list actor she wasn’t in that circuit, Precius was actually her breakout roll which could’ve easily catapulted her into a list status. She was offered $50,000 upfront and 5% equity of the total film. So if you’re in business, you understand that 5% is far more valuable than that $50,000. 2. Precius was an independent film that wasn’t picked up by Tyler Perry and Oprah until the film was done and showcase at the Sundance film Festival, so they had no say so in her pay so technically she was right about her contractual obligations because they didn’t project the film with make it overseas, but it did! Lionsgate asked her to promote the film overseas and let me tell you, Denzel Washington Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt none of these A-list would ask a studio to pay them to promote their own film! Because that’s not how the industry works no one gets paid to promote a film. So what Monique is not telling you is that she made about $3.5 million off of the film because of that 5% equity which she probably could’ve made more if she promoted and she became a risk to the studio by abandoning a film when it was at its highest peak! That’s why nobody want to book her anymore

Netflix has the right to offer what they want. And she has the right to not accept it. Neither side is wrong. Of course Netflix wants to pay as little as possible and of course Monique wants to get paid as much as possible. And if they cant find an agreement then you go your seperate ways.

This segment deserved more time, hence Whoopi’s ‘shoot.’ I hear what Monique is saying-logically, it makes sense but you have to play by the (spoken and unspoken) rules lest you want to end up in her very same sinking boat. Many have tried to school her-Whoopi, Steve Harvey, etc. But M would rather be dead right! Personally, I’m not sure why anybody would have to pay you to promote your own movie but hey. Hopefully, there’s a breakthrough soon.

@@shamaiahellis8810 You make good points, however only big stars get their worth, Pppl like Julia Roberts, Eddie Murphy, Schwarzenegger etc are stars that can carry a film solo, but Mo'Nique is an ensemble actress. sure in live comedy she is her own artist/star, but in films she normally works with other namesso her acting like a movie star is misguided in my opinion. I think Moniques stubborna and her husband as manager creates more problems coz he is too close to be objective. Many actors are interchangable nowdays so if she wanst to play hardball, they will just hire somene else in future,
