Part of what's clever about this game is that a LIDAR does not actually adhere anything to the target. It's simply a method by which we gain visual data for ourselves. So not only is he barely able to catch that the statue is in fact moving, it also serves to illustrate how fragile our perception is in this moment. He has given himself a false sense of security by thinking as long as he can detect it with the LIDAR, he's safe, it's just a motionless statue. But that's not actually what the LIDAR does, and that cannot be further from the truth.
