Ladies, this was an especially interesting conversation analyzing what constitutes a true apology. It is so very important for the offender to own the wrong that has been done, but I think so many of us feel it diminishes us to go this route. I like how you personalized the issue at the end as you spoke of your parenting. I think it is what endures over the years and can be revisited with our children as issues come up. It does for me when I acknowledge to my children issues they might be reluctant to address, things I think may have harmed them. They seem relieved that the issue affected me as well enough for me to apologize even in their adult years. Two of them are parents now, and I hope our discourse bring about peace as they interact with my grandchildren. Please continue these discussions. Thank you!!!

I remember watching that Ted talk recently (that might be why this video ended up in my recommendations) and feeling conflicted about it for the same reasons, but considering that the subject was very, very far from directly affecting me (I’m from a whole different country for one thing - stop and frisk is something I’ve only heard about through how it’s affected other people), I didn’t feel like I really had the perspective to understand that apology or its context. So it’s really helpful to be able to hear you guys’ perspective - especially when the way you both communicate and talk through this issue is so thoughtful. Super glad I ran into this video, and I’m excited to go back and listen to your other conversations!

I am not type A. I refused to work into type A. Group projects are a joke, starting in elementary school with entitled kids (type zero) thinking they get a pass because they didn’t care about the grade and I did (type care). I avoid group projects with lazy people (not the “lazy” mentioned in this KZbin video).

Fun, insightful, and excellent conversation. One other thing I would add to Malcolm Gladwell is that his apology feels especially weak given that he has been a white passing public figure who would be challenged to identify with the young black men who were harmed by his “take”. Despite his Jamaican background, he has been received and respected as a white man despite merely being an observational writer having no background in sociology or psychology.

Heard him on a podcast treat his wrong-headedness so cavalierly that I was disgusted. He is so privileged in his white proximity; his detachment from the harms he helped justify is a telling condemnation.

Angie, Leslie, thank you for sharing! This is quite a period in life where you decide to make adjustments! As a newly retired person who has responsibility for my 93-year-old dad as well, I understand what you are experiencing. My only advice to you is to take your time sorting through what you actually want to keep. Those items should represent you and fit into your proposed newer space. I am still going through some of my things, but had to pause to move dad from assisted living to long term care. Going through his items helped me to understand the importance of downsizing. I am now back to my own space. I give myself credit for the small steps toward divesting myself of the items, so I see progress. For me it is important to keep going even after a break. This was very enjoyable! keep going, Ladies!

i always struggle with stuff like this, whether your critisism is correct or not the united states and britain are still the two greatest countries in history.its actually not even close in terms of what those two countries have done building and innovating the modern world so how to you balance that against your critisism? fun face britain invented more in 500 years than every civilisation combined in the last 10,000

I've enjoyed this conversation. That young man's family should be concern on his public display of women. As a over 60 year old woman who had locs for numerous, I had to continuously correct ppl I had LOCS and not dreadlocks. Only bc of the negative connotation, the stigma that word has.
