This will be an unpopular opinion based on this comments section. But I really appreciate the abridged version. That's not a shot at the author, or anyone else. I admire the value in reading for enjoyment and pouring over every word, keeping some lines with you as you carry on throughout your life, etc. But for some who can't afford the money or the time to get a copy of classic literature and work through it over the course of a few days, this is a nice alternative - offering a streamlined pass through the meat of a story in order to give the listener a general grip on the book's themes, subject matter, and plot points. It's a handy thing to have access to on a random weeknight. For what it's worth, I don't disagree that a fuller version of this book is obviously going to be much more impactful. I may return to East of Eden, one day, to experience it in its full glory.

Also, will add, that the readers absolutely crushed this. Very clear and dynamic speech at a perfect pace.

It’s the story of Cain and Abel and the main theme is absolutely about sibling rivalry, there are layers. Don’t let woke people miseducate you. It’s the classic struggle between good and evil.
