I will try that today it sounds great , what setting do you used for your triggers, linear? And what about sensitivity? Thanks
@dennisagresti9367Күн бұрын
My settings vary by pad based on how I play. I update them every once in a while, just to make sure I'm getting the best results on each pad. I recommend you do the same. First select each pad's trigger type. Play with sensitivity, threshold and velocity curve. I think it's best to first hit 'default' to see how Roland sets each pad type, then dial one setting at a time while hitting each pad, i.e. lower the sensitivity and raise it will hitting each pad...you'll hear & feel how it changes. You ultimately want your lightest strikes heard, and your max should hit 127.

IMHO, SD3 and other VSTs in general have way more realistic sounds. If you play only at home and does not intend to play live, VST is the best thing to go for. However, talking about hihat, even for SD3 which has an excellent experience, I would recommend using the module. You won't take advantage of all digital hihat features using only SD3 or other VSTs.
@Ludo_A8 күн бұрын
I presume that with local control ON the sound you get also depends on the kit chosen in the module itself (together with SD3)?
@dennisagresti93678 күн бұрын
Good point, and yes it does. I have a few fave ‘studio’ kits I often use under SD3. This one resonated with my ear, but every kit choice in the module or VST changes everything.

Roland sounds are actually sounding real at last. I stopped with them at the TD-20 and started using VSTs. But these TD50x sounds are amazing. No tell-tale machine gun triggering. I’d happily do drum tracks on these sounds.
@dennisagresti93678 күн бұрын
Yes, they are...but with edits! Truth told, I still cringe when I hear videos with the stock Roland sounds, and I can pick them out instantly. I use sound packs along with my own edits to suit my ear & taste. I particularly love Alan's work in the Vex packs, especially his Hats & cymbals. They sparkle. Most likely, these hat sounds are from one of Alan's Vex packs, 'Arsenal' most likely. FAR more expressive than the stock Roland sounds, IMO

HI - thats pretty saucy stuff - congrats on getting your axe all refined and up to speed. You battled through some architectural issues and and are alive to talk about it, though I don't know about your bank account LOL. I have decided to get into elec drums again, had left it behind with my simmons kit. Trying to outline an architecture and learn exactly what I need before purchase. My purpose is working on my own along with some remote friend's tracks, and doing jams. I think its generally going to be TD-50X (kit + a percussion pad device) , ezdrummer3 and Reaper7 on my laptop along with a pair of speakers for jams and headphones for practice. Do I need more than a 2x2 audio interface? I want to be sure that I get off to a solid configuration that can be zero latency when I layer VST, imported samples, and whatever td-50x sounds are acceptable. Did you upgrade your computer hard drive to a SSD? Dennis, I don't understand the loopback and midi portions of how a finished kit on VST is brought back to the td-50x module and where/how is sound mixed when you play out to speakers or monitor. The TD50x has its own audio interface and mixer, right? The DAW has a mixer on that side but that is for editing track work right? Can you help me to understand this and make some recommendations? thanks I'd rather try and get a solid config planned rather than muck thru it and waste time and money - thx again

Yes, I upgraded from the SX to the Pro when it first came out. LOVE the app for the Pro, and the pads respond better. I don’t use it extensively, but if you do, the Pro is a great investment. Be warned though, you can’t change tempos on loops you add like you can in the SX. Lots of guys upset with that, so I’ll assume Roland will eventually add that back in on a future update. Other than that, the Pro does everything the SX does and a LOT more
