I use a Crate Powerblock as an amp and a Pyramid TWD60X 400W driver. I tried the MXR out of convenience but didn't like the response. I think it has overload protection on it so it can't be driven as hard. I went back to Powerblock after that. Having separate amp and driver combos gives you a lot more control. I'll have to try the Talkstar someday. Byron seems to like it.

The Talkstar is a very well made, sounding talk-box. I’ve heard quite a few users use it and in the right hands it can sound really good. I think the 20 watts of power it produces seems to be enough for the 100 watt driver but I wonder what the driver would produce at 100 watts? So, far I have nothing bad or negative to say about it. It was and is very well made.⭐️⭐️🫵🏼⭐️⭐️ Mister Groove likes it👍
@thetalkstarАй бұрын
The legendary Mister Groove approval is amazing!! Thank you sir!! And to answer your question about power, I'm sure you know at some point you can produce just way too much synth tone to blend with the articulations from your mouth to make words - our 30W max amp is more than enough power and using a 100W driver means you'll NEVER blow it up - that baby is cruisin' !!!!!!! Cheers from TalkStar!!!

Andre played the Talkstar on my new record and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Great to see the mechanics behind why it sounds so great!! Choose Talkstar 🔥
@FunkmasterozoneАй бұрын
Andre is totaly right. The Talkstar is the V12 of all Talkboxes. But the MXR is still much better than the Rocktron. I didn't have that crazy "Rocktron noise" on the MXR. The MXR sounds very clean....in my case.... but it didn't have the power of the Talkstar. Thats for the lower sounds a real Problem. For people with less money... or for beginners the MXR is the Deal. The banshee sucks. It Sound always distorted... no power... this very loud noise....and when you use the original Tube of the Rocktron you always have this chemical smell at it. With the Talkstar is everything perfect. The amp...the driver ... all those controls ... the Light Gimmick.... the sound of the Talkstar is still untouchable.

Absolutely right @Funkmasterozone - we agree that for talkbox beginners the MXR a good choice!!! We know you are a talkbox expert too!! Cheers!!!

Hey what mic are you using ?
@thetalkstarАй бұрын
No mic was used in this video, it's all coming from the talkbox (my mouth to be exact) and picked up by the camera mic. When recording, a great mic for talkbox is the Shure SM7B paired with a Cloud Lifter - THE best!!!

One question : witch piano is the Best Piano to Play Talk Star ? To make this sounds what I listen by Byron Mr. talkbox ? The sound ist so incredible… Damn
@thetalkstar4 ай бұрын
Hey! We can recommend 3 options for great synthesizers to use with the TalkStar - On the more affordable end there is the Novation MiniNova or the Korg microKORG and on the more expensive end there is the Moog Sub37. Byron Chambers uses the Yamaha DX100 which is also great but hard to find in good condition. Also, the DX100 is from the early 80's so they are quite fragile and hard to program. Hope this helps!!!

Hey!! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course!! If you have ever tried the TalKStar and compared the sound to an MXR talkbox, you would understand why it is so much better for synth talkboxing. We always suggest the MXR as a great affordable talkbox to learn, it does the job - BUT for those who want the best sound can choose a professional quality talkbox. TalkStar is a higher cost due to the quality of all the components, and made in the USA by hand., - AND comes with the Talkbox Master Class for those just starting or wanting to improve their skills. Cheers and Happy Talkboxing!!!

Are you connecting the MiniNova to a talkbox, such as the TalkStar or other? This is only a video showing how to make a patch to use this synth WITH an external talkbox unit. Check out theTalkStar professional self-powered talkbox at thetalkstar.com - Cheers!!

No mic plugged in. Just headphone out and 9v power supply. And if you think it’s a mic, then there is no actual output for the sound😮
@thetalkstar5 ай бұрын
There is no mic because we're just showing how to make a talkbox patch. You can't see in the video but I have a tube in my mouth from a TalkStar talkbox, which is what the Micro is plugged into. The talkbox is amplifying the sound through a tube into my mouth, thern I'm shaping ther words and what you're hearing is the result from my mouth like I'm singing with synthesizer. Once again - this is NOT vocoder!!!

@Meridian-o2i6 ай бұрын
So do you need that plastic tube to make that cool zap sound?..or can you just use the vocoder mic..
@thetalkstar5 ай бұрын
The tube is what brings the synth tone to your mouth where you shape the words, so yes you need it to make that Zapp sound. Vocoder is a very different thing, and the MicroKorg has a built in vocoder with a mic - this video is about making a patch to use with a talkbox.

For the patch I use i kept my portamento at 10 and Vibrato between 64-65. Gives you that DX100 vibe. I think my vibrato was set at 64 when I had my MicroKorg.

Do you know how to make a talkbox patch for the Behringer Deepmind 12?
@thetalkstar Жыл бұрын
Sorry, we don't have one of those in house. However if you follow the basics of making this patch for the MiniNova you could apply it to the Deep Mind. Any simple monophonic sawtooth wave patch will sound pretty good for talkbox, especially with the TalkStar!! Also - make sure ALL effects are off (reverb, delay, chorus etc)
@wireguy123 Жыл бұрын
So this doesnt work with the internal mic, just an outboard talk box?
@thetalkstar Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's for an outboard talkbox. The MiniNova has a vocoder built in, a very different thing.
@Ronpedley1 Жыл бұрын
Hi. Does that skinnier end piece come with the tube set? Or is that a Mr. Talkbox custom? Looks way more comfortable in the mouth than other vids of talk boxes I've seen with the large tube. Thanks, Ron
@thetalkstar Жыл бұрын
Hey Ron - The TalkStar comes with our tube set, which includes one 6 foot tube at 5/8" diameter and two 6 inch "step-down" mouth tubes at 1/2" diameter. Yes, it is much easier to articulate your words with this smaller diameter and our research discovered there is almost no frequency loss when stepping down the tube size at the end!! Check out more at thetalkstar.com - Cheers!!
