I had the good fortune of skiing in a world cup downhill race in Aspen with all 3 crazy cannucks and made friends with their coach Butch Boutry. Great downhills and great guys!

Wayne Wong was my high school idol. I tried to emulate his style in local freestyle contests in the late 70's. The slow dog noodle and the worm turn. Classic!

I entered a bump contest in the 70I's. Had no clue- just went as fast as I could until I crashed. Got back up and went as fast as I could until I crashed again. For some reason, I got the nickname Wildman.

I've never used a set of today's modern wide skies that I like. I don't even know why, but I so very much prefer the old (new for this video) skies. The old ones I could haul ass and then slide sideways shooting up lots of snow. I can't do that with today's skies. I don't get it.

@@nutsackmania Awesome. I haven't skied in years (I live in Austin, TX) but when I worked for the airlines....I'd ski all the time! I really don't understand why I don't like the new skiis, but I do NOT. I've never had 'fun' with them.

These were great racing days. I went to some of the early 80's downhills in Lake Louise. And on the slalom side there were legends like Ingemar Stenmark & the Mahre brothers. Fun times, great memories of those days.

I have been skiing on a pair of KNEISSEL FREESTAR skis from 1976. They are really skidding type of skis. I rented a pair of modern shaped skis and felt really uncomfortable with the excess turn exit speed.....mostly in the steep. Is there a modern ski that is a little more skiddy?
@williamspostoronnim9845 Жыл бұрын

Not long after the Whistler race finish, given the annouced points totals after that race, the word went out in Whistler that Podborski had "clinched" the Downhill title....and parties broke out all over town...in EVERY bar, restaurant and private homes. The Whistler community had been waiting for this tor a very long time. Then Mueller did if not the impossible, certainly the most improbable: He won BOTH races the following weekend in Aspen. That put him and Podborski in a points tie and they were declared "co-downhill champions" of the 81-82 season. I'm not sure if there is anybody else that has ever won 3 WC races in a row (Klammer and Steinmark might be possibles) but that puts him in a very small club if it has ever happened at all.

I was a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol in the early seventies (the only way I could afford skiing in college) - on our "weekend off", we could go and ski wherever the Canadian or National Ski Patrol was covering, as long as we opened and closed the slopes - We had a blast and we were ... unruly at times, going in "closed trails" because (maybe), someone had gone there... I met a few of these guys, Wayne Wong, and the members of the K2 Demo team. Those were the days... Great memories, Ciao, L

@@ericwieland1804 Right. Those Hart Javelin skis you see at the beginning of the film first came out in about 1966 I think. So this is probably no earlier than about 1966. And the hairstyles of the women in the "apres ski" dancing segment would indicate it's probably at least a few years later than than 1966.
