Could somebody please tell me how this family got a resident's permit to live and work legally in the USA? I know that to emigrate to the UK it's not easy and you need to provide evidence of employment, money saved to support yourself for X-amount of time and so forth. How do people who cannot speak English move legally to the US to settle; she said they'd been living in that cramped single room for almost a decade so this isn't a short term working holiday type of Visa-deal. I'm very curious in the nuts'n'bolts of stories like this.
