Hey mate. Did not have this problem but pretty common issue after some years - you need to clean switch with contact cleaner from time to time. Better switch is also a good idea

Tubes comes with different plate designs, and different specifications. They might sound different, especially if you swap different compatible types, like ecc81 in place of ecc83. Tone wood, it changes only for the neck, or maybe it's just the different grain orientation since every neck sounds different. Bodies all sounds the same to me. For pickups, meh, they're mostly similar designs, and the difference usually comes from the material of the magnet used. It's really not about the price, but of electrical specs and materials. The only difference from cheap and expensive might be that expensive pickups might have better insulation, so less noise, but if you don't pick an horrible one the difference is mostly negligible.

The 1000, and some OFR's usually have a nickel plated cast brass block. People often mistake it for another metal. They might replace brass with brass, and wonder why there's no difference.
