The drawstring arrangement for the waist is a bit shit. That said, it is a great fabric, well made, with incredible features. Really good kit for moderately hard rain and hard use. Need a hat.

I won an eBay auction for one of these bags -- it arrived earlier this week and I took it out for the first time, when I went grocery shopping today. I attached the bag to my 45 L British daysack. The daysack (by PRI) is in desert DPM (M169BD1) so I suspect it's from a previous set of kit. The respirator bag fits onto the backpack's PALS webbing with room for a long skinny pouch (flashlight or saw) and a first aid pouch too. I had been thinking about getting one of the earlier desert DPM respirator bags to match the pack (cheaper than this newer MTP version), but it doesn't have MOLLE and I would have had to figure out an alternate way to mount it -- so the extra cost is well worth it! I found that when I open the zippers on the respirator bag, it has no problem accommodating two 4-packs of toilet paper/bog roll/loo paper/bathroom tissue. It really gives me a lot more space for carrying stuff. I don't know what the capacity is, but I suspect that including the little side-pouches on the respirator bag, it's probably over 10 L. And it's not too difficult to find similar-sized MOLLE pouches that can be substituted for those respirator bag side-pouches. When I first found out about MOLLE/PALS gear, I wasn't that keen on it, but this respirator bag has helped convince me that it's a pretty good invention. Now I can just zip the 10 L "rocket pouches" onto the sides of my 45 L pack, add this respirator bag and a couple more assorted MOLLE pouches or my Galyans floating backpack lid, and I've got 75+ L of room. I was interested to learn that the British pack is also compatible with the USMC FILBE assault pouch (can install on the bottom of the pack) and US Army sustainment pouches.

I have one on its way to me at this very moment. I plan to mount it on my ALICE LC-1 Harness/pistol belt as to carry my 10x12ft tarp et al, and my Snugpak Jungle blanket. One exterior pouch will hold my Fire & Water kits, the other a One Pint US Aviator canteen. My Ka-Bar Mark 1 might even fit in an interior pocket. Suspended above it I have my old issue 3 day Alice butt pack plus room on the belt. This was a great video. Too bad you went inactive...

As mentioned the jacket is designed as part of a clothing system. Soldiers will be wearing helmets, Bonnie hats or the gortex fleece lined cap which complements the jacket nicely.

In winter the French army goretex parka the ECWCS is my go to. In the warmer months I wear this and a goretex good. I wish this was a little more like the 90's dpm waterproof smok but it isn't. It's far lighter though. So with a seperate hood this works well.

Great video. I have the Tomahawk pack and it is really good. I think the difference between the M50 and the Tomahawk elite is the Tom is 45lt and has more internal dividers and mesh pockets. Both bags are very similar. I put a couple of mollie bottle holders on mine. Very strong bags. I tend to use mine for a winter bag for bushcraft and hammocking. They are not lightweight but will definitely last you for years.

The DPM ("disruptive" pattern material) British army Bergen is listed as a 100ltr pack with the possible addition of the two 10 ltr side or rocket pouches. The MTP version is a lot lighter weight material and would usually be lept dry by adding a rain cover. You can however use the additional dry sacks for the side pouches and also the main body. These originally were for the Woodland Bergen. You can also get the rubberised dry sacks which from memory came in black. I do have have both the DPM patterns, (woodland and desert) plus the standard MTP. All three Bergens came as PLCE. The "skirt" is actually generally referred to as the "snow collar".

A REALLY good review! I enjoy your reviews, you do them well. DPM versus MTP: MTP wins when you're talking about hiding birdsh_t impacts. DPM highlights it for all to see... ;-) 3:50 - A slip of the tongue, you didn't mean that. This is PLCE, there's no MOLLE (or even PALS) on this kit. MOLLE is a specific US military ISSUE kit system just as PLCE is a specific Brit military issue system. There's loads of MOLLE *COMPATIBLE* kit out there such as Osprey and a host of generics, etc, but they're NOT MOLLE unless they're a US military issue item from the MOdular Lightweight Loadbearing Equipment system. 6:59 - Oh, you MEANT it about "MOLLE loops"?! But, no doubt, you know better by now (in 2020)! Too good a review to delete it because of this detail. :-) 7:10 - If you zip both sides closed, you won't get much at all into this pack. I've only seen people do this when they store the pack empty or mail it. 12:16 - They're stiff 'cause they're "Lift The Dot" snaps (one way), the same type you find on the Osprey kit and elsewhere on PLCE pouches. You only need to open this flap to remove the frame so that you can turn the sack inside-out for cleaning. 12:32 - The right side strut rivet is broken. Because that closure flap is so strong and holds the frame in place so well, you can often get away with it and for ages. 14:30 - Mr/Miss Van Der Gelder: probably a Dutch marine commando (RNMC)! 15:24 - Hiding a kip mat. The two standard attaching methods within the military is to strap under one set of compression straps (side pouches not fitted) or attach to the accessory loops. Then fit a rucksack cover. When PLCE was first issued, there was no way you could store the kip mat inside the pack, though I've heard of REMFs opening it up inside the sack as if to line it. All they need to carry is a dossbag, pillow, wet wipes and jazz mags...

Bin the knife because : A) It 's not UK legal. B) It's rubbish. Replace it with a Victorinox Classic. Also, Ziploc bags are a much better choice than condoms. Anyone who's smart will add a lighter and that tea candle will melt under hot conditions. So wrap it in some tin foil, which is also useful in its own right. In fact folding up a couple of square ft of foil, and packing it inside the lid is always worth while. Can be used for lures, making a pot to boil water in (personally I reservations about that tin) and can also be used to start a fire on in camp or snowy conditions.

Getting ready for the second season of use with mine. I've just picked apart the stitching that makes the divided pair of internal pockets on the right hand side. It's freed up lots of more packable space, with room now for spare laces, walkman radio and earphones, extra matches, first-aid kit in baccy tin, sighting compass, GPS, headlamp and compeed blister pouch. The section on the right hand side has an extra layer of padding compared with the left that just has an outer of unlined proofed cordura. Could be useful for delicate opticals or electronics. The detachable side pouches (FLAP, POUCH - FIELD PACK) really annoyed me last year - too small for useful bottles/flasks and they catch in the bushes. Both have been removed, and I've found the molle webbing on the main bag to be really useful for securing a camera tripod. Just for completeness; OS maps, notebooks, pencils and magnifying glass fit neatly in the left hand divided section, the main section has lunch box, 500cc thermos, emergency orange bag, "survival blanket", handwipes, tissues, 10x25 folding binos and there's still room for a snack or two. Excellent bags.

Has anyone ever washed a pair of these, or are they simply discarded after 1 use? There are no washing instructions on the packaging or the socks, and I have searched the internet for almost an hour and can't find a single thing about this. They are great socks and I don't want to screw them up, but they are very different material from Marino wool which requires gentle wash cycle etc, so I guess I can just toss them in with everything else and it won't hurt them. I'll let people know if they get screwed up and the fur inside gets matted or sheds, but they are just being tossed in with dungarees, shirts, towels, etc. In 60 years, I have never bought an article of clothing that doesn't have washing instructions on a label or the packaging. I purchased them in the US at Shoprite. Great and warm socks, but this is really aggravating having costed me over an hour and still no answer.
@meanandgreenvideos5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I can confirm that these can be washed in a normal wash at 40 degrees. These are sold exclusively by us though so I think the ones you bought in the US at Shoprite are a different item - ours have our meanandgreen logo on the rear of the packaging.
@taxisteve9295 жыл бұрын
@@meanandgreenvideos Wow!!! Thank you VERY much for the fast response!! I chickened out because I like them so much and was going to use the gentle cycle when I have a couple more pair to wash, but I guess I'll go with the regular wash then. You're right...these are distributed by TDC in Fairfield NJ and they have a number there, but I wasn't going to try and call a distributor who probably had a million items they import and will have no clue on how to wash them. I still think it would be a good idea to contact the manufacturer and add that to the box....its actually a great selling point because MOST thermal socks need to be gentle washed because of the materials. Thanks again!!
