Thinking about buying this light and replacing my outdoor light. That old fashion lights just don't give out enough light. This would be great but it wouldn't go with the look of the house...

Is there no need to caulk around the edge of the wall plate as shown in the instruction manual?

the instruction manual says to caulk around the square faceplate that fits over the junction box. I just caulked around the top and sides and left the bottom uncaulked in case water does get in it has a way to escape.

Edward Chen I always wondered why they make the base plate so much wider than the diameter of the usual 4" box. It's because they make it to fit a flush-mounted box, so the plate overlaps. But not so good if the box is surface-mounted. I guess then you have to caulk unless the gasket coves the difference.
