Milt, just two bolts to take all the load of the track movement seems fragile or am I missing something? Later tracks have the interlocking teeth on the couplers where four bolts for the pad go through and earlier tracks used the removable track pin.

@beginlivinglikeaboss
@beginlivinglikeaboss Күн бұрын
Others have said they should push. I don’t agree. Mine is installed from new I think in a pull configuration. When I think of a high speed rotating mass the links would be flung outward. Pushing on them would compound that tendency to be flung outward

Early Rolls Royce and Bentley cars also used button fittings but usually the service instructions call for these to be lubricated with heavy oil (140W or heavier) rather than grease. I have two guns to do this, an original small Rolls Royce one from a Silver Ghost tool kit and a later Telcalemit one with a large quart reservoir, so almost enough to go round the dozens of lubrication points on a 1909 Silver Ghost without refilling 😀

The guy that had my D7 17A did some work to the track frame put never seez on the bolts so it has made it a lot easier to take parts off for repair. Made sure to put some more on when installing. Usually had fairly good luck welding nuts on broken studs, sometimes after breaking off it takes a few times to get the heat to penetrate the rust. It’s been a handy machine over years on the farm. Cat made good old reliable machines
@beginlivinglikeaboss
@beginlivinglikeaboss 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the input. I find liberal amounts of grease works well for me. I no longer have a steady enough hand to weld and get good penetration to be strong enough. The method I came up with worked well. Thanks for following me along as I stumble 👍
