How often do you two use this? My St Bernard is seven months old and almost 100 lbs already. We hike between 75-100 miles a month already. Does this rub on your dog? Is it comfortable after two or so hours of hiking for him?

You’re scared of getting it caught on some branches or some rocks to destroy it, the jacket is pricey and seems to weak to handle a hike maybe just a trail

Thank you for sharing your experience with the pack. I’m getting one from garage grown gear soon. I needed it sooner than the 12weeks from SWD direct. Fingers crossed it’s the right pack for me.

Those are some very nice sandals. I like those sandals but they wouldn't fit my feet 🦶. I have big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 sz15 6E wide ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. I couldn't get my big toe to fit through the toe loop because my big toe is very very big at over 2" inches wide. & with my toes being Evenly straight across the straps wouldn't fit over the rest of my toes. It suck having very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 but my wife thinks that my extremely wide feet 🦶 with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across are so cute especially with them being so chubby.

Were you able to use the Highlands bag/pad with this pack?? I'm thinking of getting the Palisades - and I'm glad it's roomy, since I would want it to hold the dogs sleeping gear. But so far, I've not seen any reviews demonstrating how these two products go together.
@greenbellygear
@greenbellygear 10 ай бұрын
I did not use the Highlands sleep system with this pack. Bear in mind that this pack is not fully waterproof, so you will likely want to use some sort of dry bag if keeping sleeping gear in the pack. Generally I keep Prima’s quilt in a compacter bag or dry bag inside my own pack to minimize the chances of it getting wet.

I spent a ton of $$ to knock my pack weight down 10lbs to just under 23lbs with food and 2L of water. My Atom Mo40 custom is perfect for my current needs.

Hi Bailey. Thank you for the review. I hope you really enjoyed your time in Montana. I have a one year old German Shepherd pup that is about one hundred pounds and counting that I'm looking for a good pack for. This looks like a quality pack but the chest strap issue is concerning as I need something that can grow with the dog, any suggestions?
@greenbellygear
@greenbellygear 10 ай бұрын
Hi Shane! Most dog packs that I’ve tried offer multiple points of adjustment as far as sizing goes, so I would suggest if your pup is between sizes to go with the larger pack so that they can grow into it. For example, if they measure on the cusp of size medium and large, go with the large size pack. If you are looking for a more traditionally designed dog pack without that chest piece I would recommend checking out the Ruffwear Approach.

They're considered base-level because they don't have the hook adjustments. Just buy the cairn II.....
@AaronHattan

The base cairn has a longer lasting vibram outsole (xs trek vs megagrip) I had Bedrock put the g-hook on my base cairns for 5 bucks extra when ordering. Not everyone wants megagrip.

@@AaronHattanagreed. I live in Appalachia so tred pattern is more important than the grip of the rubber. I need something that will last and go thru dirt mud and horse shit

I ordered a Long Haul 50 last spring right after they switched to the EcoPak material and it’s easily the best pack I’ve owned. I have been a fan of twin stay backpacks for years and SWD’s design maximizes that frame’s capabilities, IMHO. If you order one, I HIGHLY suggest you order it with the detachable hip belt. While slightly heavier, this feature has many advantages: the belt has better contact with your back, it moves with your body, especially during scrambling, it allows for an adjustable torso, and it can be fully removed for those UL trips where you don’t need a belt at all.

Appreciate the recommendation for removable hip belt. Belt and shoulder straps look comfortable and loads up to (including?) 35 lbs have been said to be "comfortable". Not mentioned in the video, but in the web page review is that hip belt pockets, straps etc all add cost and weight. The 32 oz is just the minimum weight. Took a SO Gila out for a test hike yesterday with 25 lbs. That carried well. Another solid pack, though more weight. Debating on the Crown 3 as that weighed 2 lb 13 oz on my scale, but carries at least 25 lb well and has a lid. Reasonable shoulder straps and hip belt. Just thinner buckles which can be a pain.

Hi, great review. Can you describe the fit of the hip belt for you? I tried this pack on twice at a local outfitter - I'm 6' 200# 34-36" pant size - and I found the hip belt padding was way too short o properly wrap my hip bones. The padding felt snug - but it stopped abruptly at the side of the hip bone, and did not properly wrap the front of the hip bone - it was just shy of it. So I had nothing but belt strap going across the entire from of my abdomen. I'm not a very large person - athletic build, and I don't have huge hips - I kinda consider myself average sized for a human lol. But this pack seems like it's only going to fit someone with a 30" waist or less. What pant size/waist measurement are you? I'm trying to figure out if maybe I was trying on a defective pack or something - because the hip belt looks like it fits you very well. Thanks!
