who sells rebuild kit for these engines ?
@eventhorizonlemonscar6139 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of a complete kit with gaskets, pistons, bearings, etc. I would go to rockauto.com and piece together what you need. They should have a gasket set, then pick your bearings. They may also have pistons, or you may have to go to another supplier for that. I just redid the bottom end with ARP rod bolts for more piece of mind and took the time to install new pistons. For pistons, someone much smarter than I, told me about these www.ebay.com/itm/371367003251 They fit, or of higher compression, and are economically priced. They've survived two races so far.

Take a couple of old head bolts and cut the heads off then put a slot in the top and you can use them as guide pins or get a set of ARP head studs

i actually bolt the intake drill a small hole on each end of the flange for pins. i pin it gasket and all, unbolt it and then scribe. after you finish use the pins when you torque it and have perfect alignment every time. I found that a LOT of flow come from the valve job angles and the size of the throat. I'm not sure how much flow you gained opening the head side you may have gained some but at the expense of how much port energy? work in the bowl around the guide and pushing the bias toward the center of the cylinder would have yielded better flow at alot less expense. Cutting the intake so that it isnt overlapping is OK and radius the port entry is OK.Adding a lot of port volume is NOT ok unless the gain is so much that it offsets the loss in velocity. the chambers left the valve fairly UN-shrouded but the area between cylinder could gain some low and mid lift flow - if there is room. This Helps a lot on the exhaust side if the engine is turbo. I think the project is awesome and the work you did and the video were great, thanks.

Thanks for these videos.. I'm in the UK and have a mk1 Cabriolet (1992) with the 1.8 8v 2H digifant engine and I'm looking to rebuild it over the coming winter with a few performance mods (cam, high comp pistons maybe) and I'm getting so much from your channel - including picking up tips from the comments section. I realise making these videos and editing them etc is a real pain in the ass but trust me my friend, they're much appreciated.. Regards from over the pond, Pete.
A little oil on the bolt threads is ok. Check the Bentley manual. If too much oil pools in the bottom of the thread hole, tightening the bolt could (small chance) cause a hydraulic lock and crack the head. Better to use very little oil.....not a dip into the bottle and then right in to the bolt hole. Good Luck.

I first put oil on and set in the crankshaft to see if it spinns smoth or not. AND THAN you should use assembly oil because it turns harder with it. everything else is good.

Not entirely sure if itll fit but I know that VW sells an OEM windage tray with the gasket that fits a 16v no problem. I'd do a search but I'm willing to bet they exist and the 16v one may fit with little or no mods.
@eventhorizonlemonscar61393 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment and Yes, there are windage tray options available to purchase. Yet, to stay within the lemons budget and since I'm cheap, have a welder and sheet metal laying around, I fabricated one. Welded it into the spare oil pan and stuck it on the engine. I thought about extending the front section of the oil pan out to have more capacity but I didn't have enough metal and I wasn't sure if I'd run into clearance problems with something else on the car later.
@psavel2743 жыл бұрын
@@eventhorizonlemonscar6139 Extending the pan isn't really necessary on these motors. You can run it a little over full as I have done with no adverse effects. I'd install a catch can just for peace of mind, and if you really want to make an improvement in the stock oiling system, get yourself a remote oil cooler and mount it in the rad support/ grille area. You can scrounge one from something that has one stock, as there are plenty of cars that come with an OEM one. You don't have to go all out with a Setrab one in the spirit of Lemons I agree with keeping it as cheap as possible.

hey please i have a question on bloc engine its marked the bore cylinder class , for example "abac" can i use piston classe "B 71.98" if the cylinder classe "a 72.00" is worn but still in the limit of classe b lets say 72.02" ? the mix is possible ? cause the workshop says that if classe "a" exced the limit , rebore the cylinder 0.1 and use oversize 0.1 piston Cylinder "A" 72,00-72.01 /// Piston "A" 71,965-71,97 Cylinder "B" 72.01-72.02 /// Piston "B" 71,97-71,98 Cylinder "C" 72.02-72.03 /// Piston "C" 71,98-71,99 over size cylinder "A" 72.10-72.11 /// over size piston "A" 72,065-72,07 over size cylinder "B" 72.11-72.12 /// over size piston "B" 72,07-72,08 over size cylinder "C" 72.12-72.13 /// over size piston "C" 72,08-72,09

The terminology used here is something I am not familiar with and do not feel that I can provide you the advice you're looking for. If the workshop specializes in engine machine work, then I would defer to their knowledge and recommendation.

Awesome video! I thought I read somewhere that when stretching head bolts, it was bad to lubricate the bolts?✌
@eventhorizonlemonscar61394 жыл бұрын
You should use whatever the manual says. The slicker the lube, the less friction between the threads and the more bolt stretch per given torque. The manufacturer figures that into their torque specs. Thus, if it says 30W oil, I use that. ARP will ship their preferred lube with whatever fastener kit you buy for the same reason. Make sense?
@psavel2744 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with applying a small amount of oil on the threads/ under the head/ washers of the head bolts, I always do it when not using ARP's which come with their own lube. You can however put too much on the thread area which can 'hydrolock' the bolt holes in your block. This is bad as it can give you false torque readings and worse, can actually split the block when the liquid has no where left to go. A little on the threads and under the hex area is all you need.
@pecko88tv4 жыл бұрын
@Lee Childers There are two short cylindrical pin like pipes that connect the oil drainage canals on the backside of the head. Their primary use is to create a tight seal and help align the head gasket and the head itself on the block.
@psavel2744 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was wondering where the alignment dowels went to. Usually they get pulled out when the head and or block gets milled but reinstalled before the head gasket goes on. I would definitely not try to run without them and wouldn't rely on the head bolts to position the head and gasket properly.
@eventhorizonlemonscar61393 жыл бұрын
The engine was given to me disassembled. No idea where they are. This is a fairly low compression, gas engine. If this was a blown engine running nitromethane, I would be more concerned. The engine has 7 hours of track time on it now, no issues.

I know these engine respond to boost incredibly. I have a 1.8l 8v with a supercharger from a Pontiac gtp on it running 11 psi and I spin all through first and second and torque steer through the rest. I don't know how lemans works so im throwing this out here just in case.
Great question, I cannot remember. Due to the budget limitations associated with lemons racing, this engine was assembled with the most cost-effective engine rebuild kit I could find. Will it survive the racetrack? maybe?
