The Melvins did an incredible cover of this song with the Butthole Surfers' bassist, playing live in front of an ice cream truck. the lyrics talk about a fictional youth going to war (30 years war) and his thoughts, among the lyrics are numerous hard hitting lines, like. I give my life for my country, but who will miss me, see me as a husband or friend, brother or son, that never comes home. having stood at attention in uniform at memoria, this hits close. I think this is close to what goes through the mind of most persons through the times going out to fight, be they Spartan, French, British, Ukrainian... Not only death, lossing friends/limbs/eyesight, getting nightmares, PTSD... there are many ways war destroys lives.

A good choice for Halloween is a very dark female voice, and an amazing minor version of a well-known song. Goosebumps from the Queen of Goosebumps. How often do you hear low female contralto voices in popular music? Agree, they are rare. The "dramatic contralto" voice is a very rare gift. And how often do female contraltos have a range of 3 octaves? It's hard for me to remember even one name. And a dramatic contralto of 4 octaves? At 21 years old!? Such voices are born once in 100 years. But if you add to this the richest overtones that you have heard in women, which can only be compared with a male bass, a phenomenal ability to extract two or even more notes at once (lower plus upper register, polyphonic voice!? polyharmonic), phenomenal speed of switching registers, the most complex vocal techniques, including yodel. Meet Diana Ankudinova! And I want to see your surprised eyes and open mouths when you react to her!

Time is probably my favorite ELO album, as it's so spacey, (it's 80s), and quite different from their 70s stuff. Although I really like the more classical sound of the 70s records they do. Especially 'Out of the Blue'. This song is one where you don't even need any enhancements.

This is a sobering song that makes a tragic statement about the human condition of no real love and total self-involvement. Something all too common and something which remains an ongoing tragedy even more so now years later. The baby (i.e., Betty) is a victim representation of her young parents' apathy for family, marriage, or anyone else. Ambition and personal pursuits of individual interests by her parents ultimately abandon the baby Betty to the diminished role of a worn out novelty. The baby Betty's parents later make admissions to attempt to selfishly explain away and justify in hindsight any sense of guilt and responsibility for their abandonment of the baby Betty and deny their critical role in her tragic death. The baby Betty's father is a selfish, ambitious man who abandons his family to go to Texas where he becomes a wealthy tycoon in agriculture... and despite his great wealth selfishly chooses NOT to lift a finger to help (or even acknowledge) his former family. The baby Betty's mother (left to raise a baby on her own) feels trapped and alone... with little money, she becomes a stripper to pay the bills... not so much because she lacks the qualifications to do anything else, but moreover to cure her youthful sense of isolation and insatiable need for social adventure. The baby Betty was obvious a curious toddler left on her own while her mother was likely busy in the bedroom with some man she recently met at the bar. Because baby Betty was left unsupervised, she was able to explore and ultimately discover a bottle of aspirin (which she mistook for candy) and overdosed... dying all alone. Obviously this is a song about the sad notion that even someone so precious as a small child is expendable to the selfish needs and personal interests of parents... who possess all the necessary resources, but who lack capacity and desire to give of themselves.
