Very informative, thank you for sharing. Some people suggest by cutting around the anus to tie it off first to prevent leaks. Is that true or personal preference?

Poke holes between ankle and tendon. run a stick through. it holds it open and you hang it from that. the cut the carotid and drain blood so it doesn't spoil the meat

Check this out.... Look into purchasing what's called The "Butt Out".... They're a cheap tool that pulls the Colon, A.K.A. The "Shit Sack" right out the Butt Hole so you can tie it off and disguard it.... They work Phenomenally!..... You stick it in there, give it a few turns and pull.... The Colon comes out, tie it off with a string, cutting away, and done... No chance of accidentally getting "Poo" everywhere if you make a bad cut....

Just a word of advice, you need to experience it first. Hunting is not for everyone, not everyone can kill a deer with no remorse.

never just "get in there".. this is how you get urine, feces, and other nastiness in your meat. this is bugger up a field dressing 101. watch steven rinella's "how to field dress a deer" vid from 2013 if you want to field dress properly

The reality of gutting a Deer is not as bad as this post makes it seem. There are advantages to hanging a Deer head up for field dressing IF it’s an option!!

If your bringing the whole deer home you def need to get the guts out. If you're just packing the meat out I say never gut it. Ever. It's way to messy to do unless you have to. Me I always have to.
