Howdo BH. Ah bike jackets :-) another 'affliction' of mine sadly. Sort of accrued quite a few over the years and do like to try different ones (try usually equates to buy) One of my current favourites is the Belstaff Brooklands Leather in antique burnt Cuero (brown) but the annoying thing is that as soon as any half celebrity is seen in one or god forbid one is seen in a film the cost doesn't half ramp up a bit. Both Harley & Triumph do some crackers as well, trying to get a Harley one without some sort of boy scouts award patches on them is tricky. The old Triumph Rocket 3 leather jacket is brilliant but, as with quite a few of the alleged high end jackets, the zip pull tabs are prone to fail, or is my stomach getting bigger ! Anyway the Bonhams Autumn sale hurt me a bit but a do have a couple of sales in the pipeline. I post a link below to the jacket I currently use. See you at Barton when the sun comes up. Safe riding to all the viewers. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126629506111?

To be fair the OEM fasteners are mostly stainless, only wanted to make something as I'd removed the pegs. For such a low volume bike, doubt it would make sense to manufacturer special fittings/fasteners. Gives me an excuse to tinker with it lol. Next month Norton will announce the first of their brand new range, could be death nell of the 961 sadly.

Yo Bevel Head, interesting video but I would edit out the Mk 1 Sten part and remove the wall decorations mate. Section 1 firearms with the required deactivation certificates are one thing but on the bench in the workshop of a very competent engineer could just trigger (see what I did there) a visit. Many years ago I feel foul by having smooth bored Lee Enfield's which were perfectly legal when I bought them but, over time, required to be deactivated as well. Stensby's on Shudehill in Manchester did what was required and got them off to the proof house in Birmingham for the appropriate stampings and certificates. Anyway see you at Barton when the sun comes up.....

It would be expensive if you had to pay for the labour in addition to the material costs. Approx £200 in material and 20 hours of machining and welding, at whatever the hourly rate a workshop would charge where you live. It would make more sense to buy an aftermarket swing arm, but in this case none were available.

Hello again, we have spoken on a couple of occasions at the Monday evening Barton Airport meet ups , one of my bikes featured in the start of a video you made at one of the meets its the blue BMW café racer with the Zard exhaust system fitted. Anyway being in my 60's with 47 years of riding behind me I often have had to 'thin out flock' as space, finances and other peoples tolerances are not infinite ! I tend to quickly go through bike ownerships and even I must admit the sum value of the 'flock' was often going from too much into the waay too much bracket but that said it is my passion and health allowing I hope it will continue for a few more years yet but riding position is now fast becoming a more important factor than it ever was, so much so the Laverdas had now sadly been let go :-( Model recommendation for yourself I can only and will only reflect on what I have owned, people who read then recommend are usually Facebook plonkers which I steer clear of, and the only one that could tick at least some of your boxes is the Indian FTR 1200 but personal choice is hard to evaluate / understand at the best of times let alone when bikes get thrown into the mix ! Two things I will end with, firstly I have often said to my son that if I die suddenly do NOT let your mum sell the bikes for what I have told her I paid for them and finally one of my friends who shared the watch affliction that I went through gave me a great piece of advice which was " Be careful your possessions do not end up owning you " Safe Riding To One & All.
@Merch131ho
@Merch131ho Ай бұрын
Hi Ian, yes I remember your custom BMW, I think you told me you were looking to move it on and try something else? I did consider the FTR1200, but while I'm sure it ticks a lot of boxes, ultimately I didn't like the way it looks. Found the 180 Laverdas a bit too tall and unwieldy, (I did own a 180 Jota and a rare 120 Formula Jota back in the day), much preferred the SS900 Desmo. Later, I did own an RGS for a few years which I thought was better than any Jota. These days I enjoy building bikes, just as much as riding them, its almost a separate hobby for me. But having spent years building a bike, I hate to sell them... end result I have 12 bikes lol. That said any / all would go if someone made me an offer ''I can't refuse''. Oh I like watches too, sold off all but one my Rolexes when prices went mad during C19, I prefer my Zeniths EPs in any case. With the nights closing in, don't think I'll be going to anymore bike nights this year. Looking forward to the spring. Cheers, Lee

@grahammccarthy9841 Ай бұрын
Just a comment about dark visors, maybe someone can correct me if it is wrong. I read this in one of the mainstream bike mags years ago, sunglasses are polarized, block UV rays. Dark Visors do not. They have the effect of causing your pupils to dilate and therefore allowing more damaging UV into your eye than using a clear visor and sunglasses. I'm a Shoei fan myself but my god are they getting expensive, thanks for the review of the HJC..
@Merch131ho
@Merch131ho Ай бұрын
Makes sense, a dark visor wouldn't be polarised, as folks who wear spectacles could have polarised lenses. That said, UV exposure while wearing a helmet isn't really a worry to me to be honest. Just wearing a helmet would cut down some UV, due to the shade it gives around your face. Can't beat a Shoei, but yes they are getting so expensive. I was looking over a mates carbon Shark helmet today and that looked very well made too.

Hi Bevel Head. I have a CR and I'm loving it. I was unfortunate to drop the bike whilst stationary in the garage. I feared the worst. I thought for sure the lovely stainles exhaust would be ruined. To my delight the rear pegs, which were folded up, saved the exhaust as they protrude just enough to keep them off the floor. Just a new clutch lever and I was good to go. I would concider putting a crash bung in there which should look ok.

I used an aftermarket performance coil, called a 'single fire' coil. It is essentially two coils in one body. A friend kindly allowed me to use his workshop to make the parts, so can't really ask again. However, if I was doing the job again, I may take a different approach. The easiest option is just to use a stainless penny washer in place of the peg, which matches the look of the exhaust mount nearby. Or you could use aluminium countersunk washers, often used on fairing / panels, which come is different anodised colours and sizes, while being a little thinner than those I made. Lots to choice from on Ebay. The bushes I made to go into the frame aren't really needed, since the washers won't be under any load.
