I will try to keep this short. I love shelbys, have several, most needing full restro and a few bosses, what I don't have is deep pockets, never have, I guess you could say I'm was a budget racer. I had a few gas stations back when they were available for the average guy, with bays, so me being a ford guy I got a 1967 gt-500 race car from a friend's family, who had passed away in his porsche, at Sebring, It had and still do a Holman Moody 427 Tunnel Port, dual 4 in it. I upped to a dan williams manual, a few improvements and raced scca and some imsa here in florida. Never had the funds or the backing to really have all the good stuff, but boy I had fun. Sometimes working into the morning rebuilding something, then loading up to go to a race weekend, many times by myself. Now all these years later, I can say, those were some of the best times, no money, no crews, lots of hard work, long hours, but ohh such a thrill, like a rocket ship. One funny note. When rebuilding once, the pistons were so loose in the bores, they would wobble, I laugh, but that motor, never blew up, felt like it could rev unlimited if I let it. I still have the car, all the spares, motors, extra hm parts, often I dream a little dream.... Loved watching this video, I know the driver is feeling what I felt a long time ago, all that power, thanks for the memories.

Never could appreciate the fascination with FE block Mustangs except maybe for drag racing. The FE motors weigh damn near as much as a bank vault. I had one in a full size Mercury and it was a beast to drive

Made me wait 4:14 in, before actually drives the car a little bit.. By no means(no offense) did this driver approach the limits of this car. Took it pretty easy on it really. Awesome car....

A ny 427 FE sideoiler e ngined car sey up and prepped by Holman Moody is fast and competitive. Be a ides this Mustang there s at least 1 64 Ford Fairlane 427 en g ined setup by HM in German hands. You can see it on U Tuve titled Ford Fairlane at Nordschiefe and 427 Ford Failane at Nurburgring. Aw d some csr like this Mustang. Exoensive too Holman told me a rolling chassis sans engine and trans was 250 000 dollars. But worth it.

being able to beat corvettes is certainly a testament to his driving skill and the way the suspension is set up because that is one front-heavy car , right there . and no independent rear suspension either . but i don't think that really matters too much on a smooth track

Pure business! Moody cars seem a bit crude, but they are built tough and for results. Wondering if vintage cars are faster today then when they were originally campaigned.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you strengthen the frame and body to withstand the torque of that engine?

Oh my God !!!! I stumbled on this by accident, and it brought back a flood of emotions - I felt like it was 1968 again, corner by corner, when I drove my '63 Vette here. I also ran at Riverside (RIP - now a f__king shopping mall). Thank you for the unintentional memories - ones I thought were lost forever in my mind. Hope I can sleep tonight
