I sleep in a bonnet every night. I have a silk bonnet and this one keeps my locs smoother. As a loose natural my go to hairstyle was pulling if back in a ponytail. Being able to wear my hair down every day is awesome. My locs are always styled. I take off my bonnet and shake out my locs and go. I also like not having to use a lot of product in my locs. As you go along this journey you will have no hesitation washing your locs. This will keep down the itching too. Massaging the scalp will also help eliminate itching. Like you I plan to keep my locs at armpit length. They are on my shoulders now at 2 years and 5 months loc’d. Don’t be afraid to trim your locs Congrats! Good luck! How many locs do you have?

I started my loc journey March 2024. I agree I do not want long locs due to the thickness of my hair. I’m also afraid of the stress the length may cause.

Love your dreadlocks! Btw, definitely try wearing a bonnet to control the frizz. Since you’re in the beginning stages, it is gonna be frizzy. And also with the makeup thing: try setting spray on your face so your makeup won’t be on your locs. Highly recommend NYX from the drugstore!

Hi. You can minimize some of the frizz with manicuring them. There are many videos to watch. Personally, I don’t like really neat locs or parts. Nor do I like twisting and stying much. Grey hair can be a bit more unruly, but your grey is gorgeous. Also, certain oils can cause dryness and that’s why I just put a little grease instead on my scalp.
