Some of these toilets are absolutely overprized! I honestly don´t understand why some of these plastic containers which contain just a plastic trash can and a plastic urine bottle, cost hundreds of dollars or euros! lt´s ridiculous. The only somewhat unusual part is the urine separator. I understand that things made lovingly out of wood, or more complicated affairs like those real compost toilets with a mixer and a ventilator are more expensive - but there´s no reason for these steep prices for simple plastic buckets! I really like the solution of the guy who just pees into the potty with a cassette, and if he needs to crap, he just lines the bowl with a plastic bag. And when he is done, the bag is closed with a knot and then discarded into the trash! You can refine this process a bit by adding some coconut fiber to the crap in the bag in order to prevent nasty smells in your trash bin. Cat owners who have cleaned cat toilets hundreds of times, or mothers and fathers who have changed the diapers of their kids, should not have any problems whatsoever with that simple procedure 😊 I really don´t understand why so many people get so squeamish about their liquid and solid excrements! That said, l have to admit that there are some large scale problems with simply discarding our fresh solid excrements into ordinary public trash cans. If just a few people are doing it, there´s no problem whatsoever, and it´s far better than adding harmful chemicals to a cassette toilet. However, if discarding our solids into the trash becomes a mass movement, some local infrastructures.might not be able to handle hundreds of poop bags which have been thrown away by travelling campers. And not all of them will use bags which are sturdy enough, and some of those bags might rupture or even explode if it is warm outside! The campers will be gone by then, and the locals are left with a very unpleasant and smelly problem! Another down side is the use of so many extra plastic bags. For those who really want to recycle their biological waste without constantly throwing plastic bags into the trash, real compost toilets with a mixer and a fan are a great solution. Even if it´s not always possible to add the solid stuff to a proper compost heap, the stuff is much more pleasant and far less smelly, when it has spent a few weeks in the bucket with a mixer, and it is not harmful to add it to an ordinary waste bin. And you only need one plastic bag once in a while. For those who really try to care for the enviroment, those compost toilets are worth a try.

Tip for women: pee into a sturdy, large-mouth plastic yogurt container, hold it close but not tight, then pour it out through wide-ish funnel (cut short a rubber female funnel, yes the ones that never work), into a standby 3 qt milk jug, with a teaspoon of distilled white vinegar per jug. No odor, and plenty of storage. Best wishes!

So glad I stumbled on this video. Thanks for doing such a thorough and well explained survey of what's out there. I have watched dozens of rv van videos but no one wants to talk about this subject - your information was very helpful for someone with no experience trying to decide which system will be best for their situation.

So impressive. Are you able to share the price of this particular build?
@ReadySetVan3 күн бұрын
The Hudson layout comes with a well-featured interior at $94k, and we've found that some people add ~$10k of options, while others (like this one) double the price. This van has over $50k of just exterior components!

Thank you! Fun fact - the first vans we built were walnut-only because we thought it was so nice. Of course, now a lot of people like a birch interior and we really like that, too.

How much would this cost to build with the Van included?
@ReadySetVan3 күн бұрын
The Sprinter 170 AWD, well-featured from Mercedes, comes in between $82-85k as of right now. So the total cost starts at ~$176k, but most end up in the low 200s. Many end up much higher!

Excellent build and video! Do you think EV Vans have a future?
@ReadySetVan3 күн бұрын
Great question - we have some opinions here and are really excited for the potential future. Right now, the short answer is that the range just isn't there, and having a fossil-fuel generator under the hood to charge your batteries is just too convenient. Long term, as the tech improves, it feels inevitable.

Another beauty, well done! I didn’t catch where the shower grey water ends up (guessing a 10-15 gallon tank underneath). And a benefit of that headboard design is as an extra barrier between the noggin and rear doors on cold nights.
@ReadySetVan4 күн бұрын
It's a 20 gallon tank underneath the van for the shower, and a 10 gallon tank inside the van for the kitchen. We ended up really liking the headboard, too, it came out so well. Thanks for the comment!
@keliblum65915 күн бұрын
I love it. I'm very impressed. What is the cost of something like this?
@ReadySetVan4 күн бұрын
Thanks very much! Our Hudson build, which is this interior layout, includes a lot of standard features (A/C, lithium, the layout you see here) and starts at $94k. The van is a separate purchase, and if you buy a new, well-optioned Sprinter 170 AWD, you can expect to pay $80-85k. So a baseline is ~$185k total. Quite a few of our builds, like this one, add tens of thousands in just exterior modifications, so prices for the build can go up more than double.

I look forward to seeing your video on the Clesana toilet. It looks like it takes the best aspects of the Wrappon and puts it the nice shell of the Laveo. I hope it becomes popular in the US.

Yes, the concept is great and we're really hoping to try one out soon here. Fortunately, we have some clients besides this one who are also having it installed and excited to "test it out" - so we'll have their trusted reviews even before our own.

Very nice. Well thought out design. The closest yet to my needs. Couple questions: 1. Can you integrate a Timberline system into a build like this? 2. I'd like a larger refrigerator in lieu of some of that cabinet storage. 3. Absolutely love the garage. Best in class 4. Are you able to add the 40g extended fuel tank to this setup? 5. Is that a 48v air conditioner? 6. I'm assuming no issues adding a 5g cassette toilet? 7. Where does that shower drain? 8. How do I contact you?
@ReadySetVan4 күн бұрын
Great questions. We haven't installed hydronic heating systems and there are a number of reasons that we're unlikely to do so in the future. Maybe we'll make a video about our rationale there - would that be a good idea? There can be serious compromise with a bigger fridge, so a lot of our clients will have us install a second fridge or fridge/freezer/cooler in the garage or elsewhere. That's a 110v A/C from Houghton. We *really* like that unit and it does a great job cooling the larger Sprinter 170. We will install the Dometic RTX 12v unit by customer request or on smaller vans, but prefer this one for the longer wheelbases. The shower drains to a gray tank under the van, which is purged via dump switch. It can be hooked up. Send us an email - [email protected] - fill out a form on our website - www.readysetvan.com/contact-us - or give us a call - (609)878-8822.

So how is this different than the Laveo? Seriously curious. What I'd like to find is a hybrid Laveo/dry flush that is urine diverting so I can have my (hopefully rare) #2 sealed up and an eco-friendly #1 that I can dump without using anything disposable.
