Only issue I have with this idea is that some children have died due to specifically pink (or any other vibrant color) guns. This is because toy guns often have bright orange tips to show that they're not real, so kids mistake a hot pink handgun for a toy.
@ddynamite3835 Жыл бұрын
ok, first of all you missed the joke with that part secondly, teach the kid proper firearm safety thirdly, gun safes exist and leaving a gun in there is a good way to make it secure
@WisteriaDrake Жыл бұрын
@@ddynamite3835 I agree, but people keep being really stupid about that. Most would disagree with me, but if you need to test for a driver's license, renew it (and even re-take the test for CDLs), and purchase car insurance just to drive something that kills even more than guns do, why can't you do the same for guns? Require a firearm safety course as part of the license requirement, require that any first-time gun owner also purchase a safe of some kind to store the weapon properly, and possibly make people retake the safety course every X years. It would at least cut down on the accidental deaths due to kids finding a handgun in the bedside table, or some idiot giving himself a Darwin award (or killing someone else) due to mishandling. Won't do much for crime, obviously.
@kay1229 Жыл бұрын
@@WisteriaDrake I think that has a lot to do with the 2nd amednment, these might seem like logical laws but the 2nd Amendment is against the government, and test is handed BY the government and wants you to retake the course.....which is directed by the government, I don't think people would be down for that I think it might do much for crime, ironically with what you said people would be more disciplined with using a gun with the things you said above, but there's trade offs to things. Some figuratively, some literally
@jacobprice87693 жыл бұрын
I feel like that would just increase the amount of gun related crimes. Now a quarter the population carries guns and who knows which of em have strong impulse control? Get into a heated emotional argument, turn around and get shot. Not anywhere near the majority would do this, but if texas road rage shootings have taught me anything, everyone having a gun means the person crazy enough to use it prolly has one too

A friend of mine had a gun in her purse. Her purse was snatch away from her. A week later, her gun was used in an armed robbery where a convenience clerk was shot (non-fatally). The daughter of another friend committed suicide with the gun her father gave her for protection. If we are going to use anecdotes to argue why women (or anyone) should have guns. we should have anecdotes that demonstrate why they shouldn't. Personally, I'm not a big fan of anecdotal evidence. I know they can be emotionally convincing, but cold hard statistics are much more reliable. Statistics show that people who own firearms are less safe than those who do not. Statistic also suggest that I am personally, not likely to be shot (again), so I will not try too hard to convince you that you don't need your guns. The process of Natural Selection sez, "Howdy!"

Can you direct me to the studies for the statistics you mentioned?

@@finaoo1167 Being the cynic that I am, I'm going to assume your request is disingenuous. But that's ok, I deal with disingenuous people all day, so I will humor you a bit... To understand the statistics I mentioned, one has to look into multiple studies. However, I will give one instance, just to demonstrate that I'm not saying things without any foundation. Here is one study that holds a singular position in the mosaic that is my understanding of the subject: [Webster DW, Vernick JS, Zeoli AM, Manganello JA (August 2004). "Association between youth-focused firearm laws and youth suicides". JAMA. 292 (5): 594-601. doi:10.1001/jama.292.5.594. PMID 15292085.] This study looks at the implementation of CAP laws in a dozen or so states. Limiting child access to guns in the household, resulted in a 23% reduction in gun deaths to children under the age of 15 [95% confidence interval]. Other states that have not implemented CAP laws did not see similar declines in the same period. The study has been well peer reviewed and considered by experts to be reliable. So, this is but one example of how a specific group of people are less safe with guns. I could give you more examples to demonstrate in a more general sense, but as I said, I don't think you are actually interested... and frankly, I don't have the patience... and I'm not trying to convince the unconvincable. We live in a culture where a majority of people think their right to own guns takes priority over the rights of others not to be victims of gun violence. I can't even change the culture within my small organization at work. What chance would I have with the gun culture?
@finaoo11673 жыл бұрын
@@quinnmendel449 - Actually, I was quite sincere. I am always open to review data on both sides of an issue. On an issue like gun ownership, both sides are going to have an agenda, so it's hard to sift through the data and draw objective conclusions without being misdirected by the spin, but I'll always listen.
