Yes, every kind of mistake is possible when running a little bit too fast for your orienteering capabilities! Interesting concept. Nice video. I am struggling a bit making complete videos to upload which include the gps on a map view, and the camera view. I am using a recommended procedure of Avidemux, Quickroute, and Orientview. Can you briefly describe your process and the programs you use? Thanks.
@forestdetour

Thanks! My procedure is probably not the most convenient, as I use windows “game bar” function to make screen recordings from the orienteering gps service called Livelox that akready has the maps in their database. Then I do the rest in the video editor (davinci). But I recently saw an instruction video that may help on XCJAGGES channel that uses Routegadget, maybe that can help.

It looks like you are using a chest/belly cam. I want to use the same placement, for the main reason that I need a good wicking running hat and a headmount wont work while wearing it...along with not having a video showing me twisting my head back and forth while I am running, while also allowing me to show the map in the viewscreen as you do. My biggest hurdle I believe will be trying to find the correct apps/programs to sync the video to the GPX track.

I actually held the GoPro (hero 8) in my hand all the race, the stabilization is so good I didn’t have to think much about it. This time, I was actually holding it with my right hand which isn’t the best alternative. It’s a GoPro 8, I like the stabilization as long as it isn’t too dark. I usually use a chest harness, a headmount or a small handheld tripod. Haven’t tried shoulder straps but it might work too.

Interesting and fun concept. Did you have a FPV headset on for the whole leg? Meaning no other vision than the drone camera?

No, I had only my small screen, no FPV headset. This was actually more of a test, and I realised it was not so easy to navigate with the screen and the map simultaneously. And combining that with flying the drone and running (mostly walking) in difficult terrain was really difficult! Not to mention the obvious risk of crashing the drone or falling while running.

Actually...shouldnt 1:04 be rocky ground and therefore gray? Rough open land is really where vegetation has been cut several weeks ago and it has regrown some and hard to walk through...
@forestdetour
@forestdetour 6 ай бұрын
Yes, I also think this could have been "bare rock" (gray) especially compared to the example of "Bare rock" at 18:01. But of course it depends on the level of generalization that the mapper has to make. According to ISOM2017-2 (link in description) "An area of rock covered with grass, moss or other low vegetation, shall not be shown using the bare rock symbol." Maybe the first example of the "rough open land" had more parts of grass/moss as a whole than bare rock. But my experience is that some mappers are more restrictive with the use of "bare rock" than others.
