I fully recognize the fact that we need to categorize and label political ideas, but it seems to me we get too narrow and overly pedantic when we talk about 'fascism'. Many autocracies are not technically 'fascist' by the book, but are every bit that. I feel like the broader and more inclusive name 'autocratic' or 'dictatorship' or some such term. But I guess 'fascist' is more recognizable and 'sells' better. Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Eun are not 'fascists' but were/are every bit autocratic dictators. The swastika or hammer and sickle are irrelevant now. The fact is: no matter what the trappings or costume, dictatorship is dictatorship. I am grateful to Rick Steves for mentioning this: all dictators are copy cats.

My son also graduated from The Evergreen State College.

Trump was nowhere near a Fascist in his first term but you’re absolutely convinced he’ll be one in his 2nd term. You all need help. He’s a states rights proponents, I’ve never heard of a fascist that decentralizes power. I do however remember the Biden administration threatening and colluding with the media and big tech to censor information critical to them. TDS is real.

I never thought this could happen under democracy. Especially America the land of the free.

Still hard to process. Tens of millions of Americans have voted for a convicted criminal who said he would end the constitution and tried to overthrow the government just because they believed the MAGA and Fox News lies that their groceries were too high. Yet reports released recently that this year’s Thanksgiving is the least expensive in 39 years. (5% lower than last year) More frightening is that Trump and his fascist MAGA has more support in the US (53%) than Hitler had in Germany. (37%) Dark days are ahead of us. . .

As Chris Hedges famously said "You don't fight fascism because you think you can win. You fight fascism because it's fascism!"

Many of us do see it, Steve, and are horrified. However, ‘we’ are informed, and too many are not. Republicans are to blame for the ignorance (not stupidity) of too many of our people.

I’ll help you out Steve. Mussolini, who invented it, said Fascism really isn’t the best word to use, but that CORPORATISM would be a better definition. And that is precisely what we have going on. The “privatization” of all government services, for which it collects taxpayer money to fund, to be funneled instead into private corporate hands, who then decide who gets served and who doesn’t, and when this causes economic disaster, as it is destined to do, they will do what dictators always do, and pick a group to blame it on. Right now it’s immigrants, legal or not, who are being targeted, and OUR ECONOMY IS BOOMING! Usually, dictators have an easier time taking power when the economy is really bad, and they can blame it on their first target group. Our economy is currently several percentage points above the next most successful economy in the world. We are doing better post-Covid than any other country, and by a lot. But, CORPORATIONS have KEPT PRICES HIGH under false pretenses to CREATE THE ILLUSION that the economy is not working well for people. That is incorrect. It is the LAWS that aren’t working for the people. The LAWS that govern price gouging, for instance. Laws Republicans have disabled. So they can claim the economy is trash so they can take power seemingly legitimately, however, it is the third slimmest margin by which any president in history has won. So they have deliberately crippled the protections for consumers, falsely represented the economic conditions we live with, manipulated prices, and now are trying to force fascism (corporatism) down everyone’s throats. Thing is, Americans will revolt when the6 realize the total economic disaster they are plunging into. We remember a very short time ago when things were NORMAL.

What about religion and fascism? At every point religion has endorsed fascism and fascists leaders, including the Catholic Church - Pope Pius XII - which turned a blind eye to the extermination of the Jews. In fact, in March 2020, Pope John Paul II offered several apologies for the Catholic Church's "injustices and misunderstanding" during the Holocaust resulting in the death's of millions of Jews.
