My name is Luciano Machado. I am Brazilian, Catholic, and since 2015 I have been doing pastoral work with Integral Ecology, inspired by the Encyclical Laudato Si'. I organized a group of people in my diocese (São José dos Campos - SP) and conducted academic research on this work, which resulted in a doctoral thesis. I published the results in a book called "Laudato Si': educational practice for an integral ecology". Because of this trajectory, I am very interested in the theme of Religion and Ecology, especially the issue of spirituality. That is why I am taking this course and intend to deepen my knowledge on this subject. I would also like to exchange experiences and meet more people who also have this interest. It was incredible to listen to this interview in 1998 from copies of the original tapes. Very much prescient and should have been heeded a quarter of a century ago. Brian Swimme was a beautiful interviewer. The Universe Story authored by both is a beautiful book that should be read by all. It's wonderful to listen to this again. Looking forward very much to reading the book in connection with my dissertation. I wonder if Tim Morton has encountered Thich Nhat Hanh and the Zen part of the Mahayana tradition and his econological thought, which centers on interbeing as well as dependent origination in the Plum Village tradition of Buddhism. Thay (Nhat Hanh) was a reformer of aspects of Buddhism and sends people back to root traditions such as Christianity. He wrote the popular versions, such as Jesus and Buddha as Brothers, and also transations and commentary on sutras in the Mahayana tradition (the Diamond, Heart, and Lotus Sutras, and many other sutras. In Plum Village, check out Phap Linh or Brother Spitit and his dharma talks on KZbin re ecology, neuroscience, and Buddhist teaching.

This was a wonderful occasion. Sam is a terrific intellect and a lovely soul.

With the deepening of knowledge in each field and expansion of disciplines even since Berry's time (my college offers degrees in Homeland Security, as if law or criminal justice and other fields aren't narrow enough to produce Homeland Security workers). In this narrowing of universities they are less universal. Less thinking and less wise in general.
