The young men that flew these aircraft on daylight raids,many losing their lives should never be forgotten. They gave their lives for our freedom,our tomorrow.

Neat little jet!!! I got to see one take Jet Gold at Reno 2015. That jet had a forced landing the next year and I thought it was gone, but I saw it again last summer here in NC at the Goldsboro air show. Amazing airplane to see flying in person. Always loved the Vampire!

Quite often (and very likely this exact one) would land in a meadow near where I lived by Tirwinney Crossroads, near the small village of Lack in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Sometimes accompanied by a circling Puma while an army unit took up position on foot patrol in the area. They flew in from St. Angelo usually, near Enniskillen at Trory.

I saw a show on here a few years ago, Ewen McGregor I think, His brother was one of few guys who got to go up and fly a Lancaster I think and I am sure he had said that there were only one or two Spitfires that have ever been Maintained / Flyable today... Gonna have to go back and see if I heard wrong
@AviationTwid

There are only 2 Lancaster that are flyable. Plenty of spitfire and hurricane as you can see.

As the announcer mentioned, the Lancaster carried about twice the bomb load of the B-17, but the Fort, being used for daytime bombing missions, carried more (and heavier) machine guns, as well as extra crew, and their associated equipment. The aircraft were of similar size and power, and weight (both empty and gross), but more of the B-17's payload was devoted to defensive armament, and that came at the expense of bomb payload. Even so, the the idea that the Fortress could rely on its own defensive armament, and the box formations in which they flew, to defend from enemy fighters simply didn't work as well as planners had thought it would, and daylight bombing couldn't be attempted over heavily defended targets until escort fighters with the range to stay with the bombers the whole way came along. As it turned out, both bombers (and their respective air forces) complemented each other very well, with the B-17s and B-24s hitting Germany by day, and the Lancasters and Halifaxes hitting by night. Strategic bombing was not as effective as pre-war planners had hoped it would be -- the bombing accuracy that could be achieved with 1940s technology just didn't allow it to be as decisive as had been hoped -- but it did make a vitally important contribution, diminishing German war production, and siphoning off an enormous amount of resources from the eastern front, and forcing the Germans to reallocate those assets to the air defense of the Reich.

I was sat on a beach in Cape Verde when my wife said do you know what a PBY is, Of course I do i said, Why? Do you remember the one we saw at the Great Yarmouth airshow, of course I do why/ I entered a draw for a flight in it and we have won. A month later we flew in this beautiful aircraft at Duxford. it was noisy, and it rattled like mad but the view out of those amazing windows more than made up for it. And the crew were fantastic. an amazing day.

They have the WRONG national insignia for that model of B-17. The G model first flew in August of 1943. By that time, the USA had adopted the Star AND BAR, insignia. Its possible that any aircraft before august 1943 would have the old insignia still on it, but anything NEW Made after August 1943 would certainly be delivered with the NEW insignia. To portray it as Memphis Belle is also inaccurate because it was an F model. Not a G model.

Used to live near RAF West Malling as a kid in the 80s, went to the Great Warbirds Airshow there a few times. Although living in the old RAF married quarters we got to see all the planes practicing for the show anyway. Plus we knew the back way in so we could go anytime haha. It's such a shame the station is now a massive housing estate.

In the cameras of the time, and the ones I grew up with, you couldn't see the props spinning at higher speeds. It's these new fangled cameras that make them look like they're not turning, half the time.

35 years of unique development creating the impossible and we don’t even have one in our forces. Chucked out by Cameron on a whim and not even developed. A unique weapon no runway needed. Every warship could have one as well as army.

On the Saturday, in gusty winds, the F35 didn’t even hover; it was just a slow fly past and gone. So much for an all-weather carrier aircraft! The Harrier, on the other hand, did an immaculate display.
