Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to watch some arrogant American get their ass handed to them by a Canadian.

When MJ ran 19.32 in Atlanta he completed 150 metres in 14.43 seconds. It was clearly not his day, in fact he got injured.

Jamaican born sprinters have dominated the 100m. Ben Johnson was no more enhanced than Carl Lewis, who failed three drug tests prior to 1988, and santa monica track club which was gov backed covered for him. Ben was the fastest. Linford Christie was the fastest in 1992. And Donavan Bailey in 1996. Even when they were not winning the Olympics they had the fastest man alive in Asofa Powell. Then there was Usain Bolt. The fastest man alive competing in 2024 is Kishane Thompson. He tightened up in the final and the US runner won. But since 1980, the fastest men alive have been born in Jamaica.

I always thought this race did not favour M. Johnson as he was 200m and 400m...

I remember this race like it was yesterday. I was only 6 years old at the time, but even at that young age, I didn’t understand what was the point of this type of race. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I discovered the whole fiasco behind this argument over who was the fastest runner. If Donovan Bailey had a better start when he broke the record in 1996 he could’ve actually crossed the finish line in 9.6 seconds. But pickers can’t be choosers. As a Canadian and I might sound a little biased, but Michael Johnson definitely deserved that humiliation.

Johnson looked across, realised he had already lost and he opted to throw in the towel. Poor form.

"Michael and Hamstrings? A-coo-da-doodle-doo, a-coo-da-doodle-doo! Coo-coo-ca-cha! Coo-coo-ca-cha!" I'll never forget this race and the hype around it. It was all so ridiculous. Even Donovan Bailey knew it and that's why he said what he did.

My dad and I dedicated the whole evening to watching this. Bailey was my favorite athletes as a kid growing up. I was lucky enough to watch to him take Atlanta followed by this on Canadian soil at what was known at the time as "Sky Dome" What a time to be a 9 year old back in 1997.

Johnson wasn’t ahead at the turn when he was supposed to be. That’s when he “pulled a hammy”

Johnson was still a great olympian - never like these match races - they are always disappointing.

Donovan could have tried 200m, don't know why he raced only 100m in his career.

He tried and he was very bad, the best time was 20,14s, almost second slower that Johnson

Johnson was a 200m/400m runner.. he was never the quickest over 100m. He knew he didnt have enough track to catch Bailey so he faked the injury to save face.
