I'm excited too! I know next to nothing about marine tanks, although I see that lots of Saltwater sumps have a couple of baffles to act as a bubble trap before the pump.

Only thing I’d do, would be to make a baffle around the exit of the skimmer to minimise micro bubbles getting into your return and display. Also be sure to test your plumbing in the event of a power outage to make sure your sump doesn’t overflow 👍🏻

Here in America they are just as rare. I saw one at the hidden reef (largest fish store for the New York area) 5 years ago. I saw the second one yesterday when I bought it, however for us they are VERY cheap compared to what you said it’s like for you. I bought mine at 5” and $20

why did the tentacles of your elegance retract as compared to older videos? Is it because it's irritated by the hosting of the clowns?
@BodgieFromStrayaАй бұрын
Yep, I wouldn't call it irritation per se, more so adaptation. The elegance was still fluffy as ever, big, eating and growing but it definitely knew it was being hosted so it basically spread itself out more creating a wider, smoother surface rather than ruffles and waves.

Spanish Ribbed Newts or Lorestan Newts would do well if the water temp isn't too high. Would have to buy adults though, as the larva are quite small and probably delicious to an archer
@BodgieFromStrayaАй бұрын
Unfortunately neither species is available in Australia but we do have a few native skinks that may work. I’ll possibly skip the archer fish since they may be too predatory with the rainbow fish too

I only have space for an 500-600 liter aquarium. But i really want to keep like 2 rays. The only problem is that i dont have space for bigger tanks. Does this mean i shouldnt keep stingrays?
@BodgieFromStrayaАй бұрын
It would be the wisest option in all honesty unless you wanted to keep marine rays. So many smaller species that would be perfect in a 600 litre aquarium as long as you have the right nutrient export :)

@AusHerps1Ай бұрын
Yo bodgie, unfortunately I wouldn’t be adding any fish or reptiles into this aquarium. You’ll find the archers would smash any small frogs
@BodgieFromStrayaАй бұрын
I had that concern too, especially with archers predating on smaller fish so they could be out of the picture entirely.

I’ve set up my first aquarium today, just a 20g long and after cycling I finally added 6 Guppies and love watching them swim! This is the food the lady at the local fish shop recommended, I asked about frozen brine shrimp and she said to start them with this, I mentioned that I want to add Corydoras next and she said I could fed them the same, fed the Guppies earlier and they loved it! Even my little guy who was struggling to get to the food was actively eating these flakes

farm dams are so tricky. good to see you got an expert… we had a dam done a few years ago and it is a joke. only fills with water after heavy rain. wrong location, bad build, not clay soil base. wrong soil. fortunately we have good ones built properly so we don’t need it. Never have a dam built by a non-dam builder. They were road-builders looking for dirt😢 we were the suckers I had started stocking another dam with baby Aussie Bass (highly recommend this fish) but had failed to notice a large population of long necked turtles. Dam dried out completely last year so they would not have survived anyway. Dams drying out from time to time is common (every few years in a dry spell). Even with a solar pump and constant water supply this large dam went bone dry. Some dams can last out a dry season, but some don’t. Sooner or later you will probably discover the curse of Australia. The mosquito fish. And the carp of course.
@BodgieFromStraya5 күн бұрын
Thank you for all the insight mate, thankfully we have a good group of experts locally in these things we can consult before making big decisions. The dam expansion is likely a late 2025 project so lots of planning for it.

Sounds like you guys need to talk to an agronomist about your soil. And seek some advice on your desired animal stocking, 8acres is really only enough for 1-2 cows or a couple of sheep or goats ect especially with poor quality soil and pasture.

Oh yes, it's actually booked in too. There's a lot of soil work we are getting done before animals or even all the trees we have go in. Thank you Dave!
