When will Endeavour be finally be displayed as I have read, in a vertical "launch" position in an LA museum?
@stvka
@stvka 3 ай бұрын
at least a few years. they have put it up there but they have to now build the building around it.

@@stvka Thanks a lot. I can't wait for that to be completed. I have already seen the Enterprise when it was in the DC area before the retirement of the space shuttles. Even though I live in NYC area I took pictures of Enterprise as it arrived on a barge but haven't yet seen it on the Intrepid aircraft carrier where it was finally enclosed in a protective structure. But during the barge trip and later before Enterprise was enclosed its wing tip was damaged during transit and then once on the Intrepid a storm damaged the very top of the vertical tail. At least Endeavor made it through the streets of LA without any damage. I was amazed that the overpass could support the weight of the Endeavor and its wheeled carrier. I saw the Discovery in the DC area as it, like Enterprise sat on its landing gear. The best is Atlantis at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida because it is positioned at an angle with the payload bay doors open and a replica Remote Canadian arm as the real one cannot support its own weight in a 1G environment! So one can walk around the Atlantis and in the lower level one can see the entire underside of the vehicle with most of its black tiles being very, very light black as these were most likely the originally applied tiles before Atlantis ever flew.

This Shuttle should have been spelled, ENDEAVOR. Without the 'U'. Why is Endeavour spelled in old English and not spelled in modern English, eg. Endeavor. After all, this Shuttle is an American product and its name should reflect the modern spelling of the word as that is the standard way of spelling since it has been adopted by our nation of America. One of the attributes of progress is to spend less time doing something, so having one less letter to tap on the keyboard saves time. There are many other words in the old English language that would be applicable such as colour, flavour, programme etc. ( color, flavor, program ) One letter is not much but when the time is included for all of the applicable old English words, then it adds up. The English language is always changing, evolving, and adapting to the needs of its users and this isn't a bad thing. If English hadn't changed since, say, 1950, we wouldn't have words to refer to modems, fax machines, or cable TV. As long as the needs of language users continue to change, so will the language and its spelling.

It flew directly over my house the day Endeavour arrived in Los Angeles; I could see the heat tiles underneath as it flew by. When I got to work, we watched it land on the runway in front of our hangar a few hours later; people were out of their cars on a motionless 105 Freeway cheering from behind us. From the north bound 405 Freeway, I saw the vertical stabilizer of it right next to the giant Randy's Donut sign on my way home from LAX shortly before the crossing of the Manchester overpass. A couple of years later I visited the Science Center to see the orbiter up-close with a friend from Springfield Illinois, concluding this funny little loop I found myself caught up in.

Kevin & his folks were my neighbors in Pittsfield, MA, and I remember he was a little ball of fire riding up & down the sidewalk. I was crushed when I heard of the crash, but so proud of everything that “little man” had accomplished as he grew. RIP, little buddy. 💔😎

@Sixfoursoul His engine failed and he SAFELY crash-landed a powerless old plane onto a golf course, avoiding the tree line and a housing complex AND golfers nearby. Only he was injured. And he was cleared to land his small plane on the taxi way. The fault was that the commerical jet below him should not have been there and had moved up far further than it had yet been cleared to do. Ford was not at fault which is why his license was not affected in any way. Ford is a very good pilot of planes, helicopters and jets and has rescued climbers and lost hikers in the mountains of Wyoming in bad weather with his helicopter...plus flown 100s of kids safely on dozens of educational flights for the young aviators program. Do your research before commenting. Idiot
