I think it’s a controlled burn that gets rid of dry foliage and stuff so it doesn’t spark up randomly and get out of control

Yes but in our case it’s more to help reduce the amount of debris we produce during our spring scalp down. It also produces ash or potash. Which is potassium and it’s in the most plant available form of potassium. The grass will come out of dormancy extremely green!
