Patricia Majalisa

As a young girl, playing with an imaginary microphone and imitating popular musicians in the streets of East London, Patricia Majalisa dreamt of being a superstar. To follow that dream, in 1978, she left her home for the start of a ten year struggle to carve a niche for herself in the music industry. In 1981 she was fortunate to meet producer Dan Tshanda and Penwell Kunene who formed the band Splash. For three years she was their backing vocalist. The group toured with Stimela and released their first album, Mr. Tony soon to be followed in 1986 by the hit, “Peacock” which reached the top of the charts of Black radio all over South Africa.

Hamilton Nzimande, who had produced the album, noticed Patricia’s vocal talent and suggested she perform cover versions while on the tour. He recorded her debut album which reached platinum status and with her upbeat African pop sound, she has had a solid presence in the industry since thus proving her immense talent and lasting popularity.
