9/2024........Wow,.....incredible tutorial! Thank you. There is much to learn about keeping an exotic pet like a Sugar Glider, safe and correctly fed and cared for. I hope many people see your video and educate themselves. Many videos, other's post are not thorough, or honest. Cute as they are,.....we (humans) need to stop assuming all wild animals should be kept as pets. As a kid, my parents denied me getting any kind of pet,....claiming that I would not be responsible enough. Not for any reason, but clearly little kids are not mature enough to address a "pets needs". I did have goldfish, and those tiny green turtles. They were boring and provided no companionship. I had many toy stuffed animals, and I would play "pretend",....as if they were alive. I didn't get my first cat until I was 22, in college and on my own. Living away from my parents, allowed me the space to make my own decisions. Because cats live, on average, 15 to 20 years, I haven't really had that many. I am 70 years old, presently. I had cats I inherited from elderly grand parents, and a couple I raised from kittens. Maybe, no more than 7. I was lucky, when I finally bought a house, and moved out of a rental suite, I could do as I pleased. There were plenty of stray alley cats, to interact with and love. I was known as The Cat Man, in my neighborhood, because I fed all the stray cats that visited my backyard. One year, as many 5 alley cats, (called) my backyard, their home. I always had food and water for them, shelter from bad weather, and I talked to them, and (petted) & cuddled with them.

Hi, I just have my male sugar glider neutered but not sure because I was told by the vet that my glider only have one testicle (the vet did the neuter with pom on). @nerobino97675 ай бұрын
Hi I m an owner for 14 years now I had a colony almost all passed away due to old age and not my remaining glider is turning 14 in a few weeks The wheel you suggested is not suitable for gliders sorry Any wheel with either square net wheels or wheels with Long sticks in the middle is dangerous for some reasons Net wheel( most buy so the p and pooop goes through it to stay clean as much as possible but it can cause them to break bones if their nails are not properly trimmed the sticks if you find a wheel with one can rip off their tails and if you use a sanding paper for wheels to trim their nails it will rub on their skin and cause fungus infections) Silent wheels with safety caps for the tails and full on covered floors with no holes is suitable best If anyone is finding sleeping hard with active gliders I suggest play time 3 hours before bed and if you don't have the energy then watch a show or play a game while you let your little one run around the room (I prefer to have my whole bedroom glider safe with nothing dangerous to chew on and not a single hole they can get stuck in) not many are comfortable with the idea but I can promise you that there will be no barking at night if you let them have this much space and a minimum of 3 hours before lights out and they will be happy and the only noise will be jumping around or wheel running which shouldn't be a problem.

@AwesomeSugarGliderMommy6 ай бұрын
@@arianaa.3448 I believe I gave the most vital information through my videos, which can help and guide new owners eager to learn and I remain active through the comment section. Not much has changed since I have filmed these videos: I still feed them the SGS 2 and they are all very healthy and active. I still try to offer the same safe toys that I've shown in the videos and make them the same snacks as I did a few years back. For now, though, my job has become time consuming and I simply did not have the energy to film and edit videos as I used to, no matter how much joy it had brought me. After work, I had to prioritise my sugar gliders and make sure they are clean, healthy, well-fed, entertained and happy. I remain available to answer any questions - as long as I have the knowledge to answer them. Sometimes one must shift their priorities and the animals that I took responsibility for come before filming and editing videos. The time I have after work goes into taking care of my health, mental health and, of course, anything my fur babies require 🙂

My little guy will not go i to the pouch willingly for me and I am worried about putting him in and zipping it closed causing him trauma and making him afraid of it. I’m going to try a different bonding apparatus like maybe a scarf or a different bag he isn’t familiar with already maybe he will be more comfortable. Any tips ??
@AwesomeSugarGliderMommy7 ай бұрын
You can try putting his sleeping pouch inside the bonding pouch and see if he is more relaxed then, given that the smell is already familiar. In any case, give him time to get to know you and his environment and take it day by day, trying to stay consistent without stressing him out.

@@AwesomeSugarGliderMommy i need to mention, his mother just passed and we have had them for a year and a half now. They would climb on us and let us scratch them when eating snacks and even after losing his mother just a few days ago he is still trusting enough to come to me and climb into me and let me take him from the cage but not away from the cage he wants to run back to it but I really want to ensure he is getting that love and attention from us until we find a new friend for him. I like the suggestion of putting his sleeping spot into the bag however it’s a large multi level hammock they chose the middle layer so that won’t really work. I have placed a small stuffed sugar glider in the bed with him to snuggle and will put that into the bonding bag for now also. Would it be best maybe to pouch him while I’m around the house during the daytime so he might just sleep and become accustomed easier? @AwesomeSugarGliderMommy9 ай бұрын
I'm very sorry to hear 😔 Maybe the other female was ill, passed away and her companion tried to make her disappear. It is a defence mechanism they have, in order to conceal the group from predators. If possible, you should take the suggie that has passed away to the vet for an autopsy, that way you can rule out anything contagious. Second, and just as important, is to find a new friend for your single suggie as soon as possible. I wish you all the best!

Hi! 😊 Please check out my other videos. I have filmed a video on how I cut their nails. As for the barking, there can be many reasons, like if they are looking for the other one or something startled then. Barking is common, especially if they do not have a big cage with a lot of toys to keep them busy. All the best to you and your suggies 😀

I give you credit for the calmness and cooperation of your gliders. That says a lot. I have tried using a bonding pouch as a glove and here's the issue I ran into. I have 3 cages and while most are related after a short time they don't acknowledge their dad or brother but instead the males at least from one cage typically don't get along with others. I used a bonding pouch to hold a female without thinking about it had held other Gliders time to time. When I put her back , her male cage mate immediately attacked her. I was able to get Wink out before he hurt her. I cannot hold males of one cage without washing hands and arms before going to a different cage. Some males are more aggressive than others and some females even get aggressive from the scent of others on me. I can go wash off, then open cages or hold them with no probs. I don't understand why the scent on my hands would incite an attack , and this is the only instance they would bite offensively. Thanks for sharing.

My glider just died yesterday at the age of 6... I've been blaming myself ever since, but seriously I can't find any reasons. Perfect diet, a whole room just for the gliders, the temperature was always right, no inbreeding, his cage mate got along well with him. I read in another comment that the sugar glider was "shaky" before he died. That would be the only symptom I noticed, but the internet says it would be a common sign of weakness that can occur with any illness or old age. I will make an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible and also have the other glider checked to see if there are any illnesses or genetic problems. The video helped me a lot to cope with the pain, knowing I'm not the only one missing his or one of his gliders. If anyone here can list more possible reasons, please let me know. Thank you!

I see alot of neglect around. Alot. And that's just cats & dogs. Exotics require more & special care. You wouldn't Design a Bridge or Tall bldg. w/out the proper skills and backround in Engineering (probably wouldn't even be allowed). When it out of your area of skill not being a medical expert .... basically what your fighting is this .... sometimes unknowingly people try to diagnose others. I've seen it in Companies and among relatives. And it is at that point one must learn to STOP YOURSELF. A Medical Degree may, make able to diagnose by symptoms. No Guarantees either. Only medical Professionals are qualified to diagnose people/animals. Before you get pets have a vet located and pet insurance. I'd figure once a yr check up for these guys. If that is frustrating consider the reality is . . . these creatures we have taken f/ their natural environment bred and are domesticating and not much is known about them. Other than they look cute. And have sp. diets and supplements to actually thrive. Probably trace vitamins and minerals as well. Kinda like Salt Water Fish. They live in Trees in the forests. As pets they're in an apartment! Probably with little exercise. I mean 99% of their life is in a cage as opposed to in trees. I mean it's like being a convict and let out into the yard for an hr of exercise. lol. Really!
@josephshaff5194 Жыл бұрын
Pet Insurance is like $16 / mo. that's an excellent deal. Should really have for them. Animals are not as hearty as people in general. Go to the vet. There is a reason I will not have pets. Under my time constraints I do not have the time to properly care for them and spend time with them. I still like animals. Animals take to me. But my path doesn't include them currently. And my time constraints in my major and grad school are steep. Many peoples pet pass when they go to college, start working, get married. Proper care is spending time w/ your pet taking them to vets and many other things. They do live longer than in the wild because of care. They are totally dependent on the owner, completely. If you take on having pets their survival is completely dependent on you the owner. And if you neglect them they will die and it's on you. Pet ownership is a big responsibility. I would think of them more like people than animals if it helps. Gliders would probably be the most manageable pet for me after researching them. Should I ever.
@josephshaff5194 Жыл бұрын
Animal Intelligence Subject: I would be interested in results of anyone allowing them to watch videos of documentaries with them in it in the wild and things or behavior they pick up on. If they watch it or it's left running near their enclosure. I was thinking this may help in rewilding training for animals that need to hunt. Though this is not my field, I'm a Physics major just something I picked up on. My great aunt-in-law had a cat that would pull on a television to watch Cougar Country regularly and would sit and watch it. It scared her because she didn't know the cat could do that and heard a male voice when she was in the shower and her husband was away. There's some docu's on rewilding big cats and how to teach them to hunt when something has happened to their mom.
