No, you misunderstand the notation meaning: This is a common issue using the “new value = old value” notation. The easy way to explain this is using the ♩ = ♪ example: This means the eighth note of the old pulse becomes a quarter note in the new pulse, so counting it out it would be: 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and (tab your foot on each number) and now change to 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 ( without changing the foot) you see that two bars go by where before only one went by which effectively doubles the speed. If the new tempo is 1.5 times faster and you want to show that, you would write: ♩. = ♩ This indicates that the previous pulse (quarter note) now corresponds to the dotted quarter note, effectively increasing the tempo by a factor of 1.5. This is often used when transitioning from straight time to swing or compound time with a faster feel. You could also write dotted eighth = eighth (♪. = ♪) to indicate a tempo change where the new tempo is faster and the dotted eighth note in the new section equals the eighth note from the previous. Which one is commonly used depends on the musical context, but in general: ♩. = ♩ (dotted quarter note = quarter note) is more commonly used when transitioning between simple meter (e.g., 4/4) and a compound meter (e.g., swing or 6/8 feel). It is often used to clarify the pulse when the beat shifts but the underlying tempo relationship remains proportional. ♪. = ♪ (dotted eighth note = eighth note) is less common, but it might be used in more specific cases, such as when the music focuses heavily on subdivisions or smaller note values. In practice: • Use ♩. = ♩ for tempo changes at the beat level, especially in styles like jazz or swing. • Use ♪. = ♪ when the focus is on smaller subdivisions and precise rhythmic relationships. ♩. = ♩ is the standard choice for most situations, as it directly relates to the pulse most musicians use for counting.

Great playing!!!But the rhytmic equivalence on the las seven bars is wrong. Actually is dotted eight=quarter.

Some people have no manners. Really disrespectful to audibly chatter while somebody is trying to present his work like that. I can't bear to listen to most drum solos these days but Vinnie is on another level and is an artist in the true sense of the word. He's not what I would call a 'pattern player' like so many other drummers I could mention, as good as they are. Just pure creativity and flow.
