You feel you’re in an exotic and beautiful place in the foyer at Severance. It gets you ready for the concert hall, which is elegant in its own right, and the performance. But I mainly wanted to hear you pronounce “Bogomolny-Kozerefski”. Nice job!

I sang in the Cleveland Orchestra chorus under Robert Page in the 1980s when he was the choral director. Von Dohnanyi was conductor. What a marvelous experience performing at Severance Hall, Blossom Music Center, and once at Carnegie Hall!

Yes, can’t wait to hear an alternative performance to this complex piece. The devilish rhythms must be an extreme pain to rehearse.

Risky from Seth Mcfarlane to give Cleveland a whole orchestra, since his show wasn't such a success. But still, good luck with this one Mr. Brown!

That was so wonderful, I had to watch it a second day. Maybe tomorrow too. Coretta Scott King's story was so awe inspiring. What you can do when you are willing and open to do the Lord’s work. Soprano Miss Mitchell was manifested as well as the choir, orchestra and the narrator. Thank you was a great MLK celebration. Celebrating his wife, I'm sure he loved that.

What a terrible oversight that the soprano soloist is not mentioned in the descriptions nor in the credits!

The tube kinda reminds me of the talking drum from Africa. Same for the bowls, similar instruments over there, except they use a calabash.

Outstanding! It is also a song for this MLK Day 2025 or his speech: "A Vision of a World Made New" (or to me, a heaven on earth) based on the theme of the Woman’s Convention Auxiliary, National Baptist Convention in 1954. Today, we can still say that MLK's vision transcends the world's views such as Trump's plans for America --- for today is also U.S. presidential inauguration day 2025. (Note: It is also not lost on some of us that January 6th or the day that Trump tried to overthrow the government was also the day of The Feast of the Epiphany.) Both of these days are a reminder that Jesus' powerful purpose and plans for humanity far exceed any other plans. Thus, MLK, in taking on this cause, uplifted his purpose and sacrificed his life for it; and, of course, The Feast of the Epiphany is a celebration of the manifestation of Jesus Christ to the world in regard to the salvation of all people. We, therefore, know that Christ is still "saving the world" in order to create a heaven on earth. (Romans 8?) There is also the book entitled: A City Called Heaven by Robert M. Marovich "that follows gospel music from early hymns and camp meetings through its growth into the sanctified soundtrack of the city's mainline black Protestant churches." Lyrics: I am on a pilgrim journey of sorrow. I'm left in this whole wide world, I'm left in this wide world alone. I have no hope for tomorrow, But I've started to make Heaven my home. Well, sometimes, I am tossed. Sometimes I am driven low, Sometimes, my dear lord, I don't know To which way I can roam. But I've heard of a city called Heaven, and I've started to make heaven my home.

It's interesting, he speaks about how difficult and terrifying the concerto is, about the opportunity to play with given conductor and orchestra, but at no time he mentions why he actually plays this work, is it great, amazing, beautiful, worth the effort?

i LOVE this recording of the Cleveland Orchestra playing this piece, the bass trombone doesn't totally take over cellos , the tuba and the double basses and instead just blends in with the rest of the cellos, tubas, and basses.
