Watford, the town where I was born and lived for the first 18 years of my life, Since then I have lived and worked in 6 other countries. But I still recognise many of those streets. That siren a bit of an irritation though.

I live directly under a flight path for air ambulance taking urgent calls to hospitals 15km from my home, with covid19 it has been eerie quite like all the people have vanished.

Before covid19 I could frequently hear sirens but now very rarely, which in itself I find very uncomfortable.

There used to be more fire stations when I grew up in Watford. I guess it’s cheaper to have just one now. More risk to life if they have to go so far to . On this shout there’s not too much traffic!
@bobmathews9072 Жыл бұрын
I think there’s just the one up by ASDA now . I’m not sure if there’s still a station in Bushey , I’d have thought it would have been easier to deploy from there to S Oxhey , maybe they were already out on a call

@stevenkiel64524 жыл бұрын
No need to not listen to music mate, mirror checks should be done every 7 seconds then you would see them without too much of a delay. That's how I was taught on my police driving course anyway for advanced :-)

I know fireman want the thrill of a fire as its why most take the job but are they happier to turn up at a place and there is nothing or nothing atleast left to worry about, or there is a good fire for them to take on and sort? Im guessing the younger more excited but less experienced are happier with the lata but the old experienced who have seen alot, are happier with the first outcome

These guys and girls are modern day super hero's, my Mam worked for Tyne and Wear fire brigade for 20 years, the amount of abuse that the Brigade get now on the streets is ridiculous, as if they haven't got a delicate work load to deal with already its has become all the more risky when on a shout from members of the public abusing them. The lads really don't need to be dragging body armour around on top of a already cumbersome kit. Respect to all of you 🤝🏻

Are they still in Watford? It seemed as if they had responded across all of England. That was a long ride. The problem with station centralization I expect. So many great European cities have only three or four massive fire stations quartering a dozen or more fire and rescue vehicles. Each station covers it's own section of the city, thus centralization. As opposed to the U.S. system of large cities and towns having fire departments made up of anywhere between two to twenty or more smaller stations spread out across the city forming a type of grid, where apparatus from different stations responds in conjunction with one another. Thus smaller response areas and shorter response times.
@AndrooUK6 жыл бұрын
Land is relatively expensive and at a premium in UK towns/cities. It's not going to happen that fire stations multiply, the local councils would not want to fund it. Now, I can imagine fire stations being reduced in number even further if the local councils could get away with it.
@smarshall835 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's just a busy day, the crews that would normally respond to an address are already at a job. You have to go into other station areas.
@CymruEmergencyResponderАй бұрын
Multiple stations are also vastly more expensive to maintain.

No wonder you have Driver's Training fire trucks in the UK. You need the best to race down those narrow streets dodging parked vehicle's and traffic.

In the U.K., Emergency drivers are allowed to treat a red light like a give way (yield) sign when responding on blues 'n' twos.
