I love this! I am all about the gloss in my home. I use Semi-gloss on all the walls, ceilings, and trim and doors. I love a reflective sheen.

I normally just stick a brush in a Wooster lock jaw or use a gooseneck brush on a pole to cut in the bits i can't quite reach . Those pivot boxes do look a decent bit of kit though.

Terry, the glaze gives the finish a richer, more furniture quality look. A single stain application looks plain. The best stain for a single application is Zar. But that’s still not furniture quality. It should be followed by 1 coat of poly, then your glaze on top, brushed out evenly. Then more poly by Varathane in satin.

I think we take different roads to arrive at the same place- what you're describing to me is what I'd call a smoke coat, to add depth. When you mentioned glaze I thought of antiquing.

Terry, painting contractor here in SoCal, been doing custom finishes for 40 years, I wanted to reply to this video about water based varnish such as Stays Clear by BM. Personally I use a different brand (Varathane Polyurethane satin) but I'm very familar with Stays Clear satin also, I love both but got use to the Varathane product. You said you don't like to water base varnish over oil stain or glaze, I do all this time, no problems yet ever! I have a system of: 1. staining with oil stain, let dry overnight. 2. Appy 1 coat Varathane poly, let dry for 3 hrs or so. 3. Apple oil based glaze: Zar oil stain plus UTC colorant to tint glaze. Couple of drops of boiled linseed oil. Brush off until even and rich looking. 4.Let glaze dry overnight. It will look flashy and uneven but tack free. Apply first of 2 coats of Poly varnish. 5.)Never had a problem with adhesion or anything else. And I have done this on $10million dollar homes. Make a sample and try it. Richard S.

I gave that some thought. My problem is figuring out how to make a roof. Tall arches that the longest zipwalls wouldn't reach. Maybe duct tape.

Not much to it. Prime it and paint. Unfortunately these transfer pumps ended up being pieces of shit and Titan stopped making them. This was the 3rd and last time mine worked. When it did work, it worked great. But I always had issues with it and it finally just died.

Were these varnished cabnets? I was Thinking about trying this on an upcoming cabnet job, did you ever do a scratch test to test the bond, say compared to and oil or shellac based primer? Your masking looks good btw...

They were varnished. I didn't do a scratch test but I assume it'll hold up with proper prep; I didn't see any flags to make me think otherwise. Having said that, I went back to using oil primer for cabinet projects.
