My layout is Unitrack on pink styrofoam. Because you'll be making future changes to your layout, you don't want a strong permanent bond. I use cheap dollar store white glue (PVA). It does a good job of holding down the track but is not too difficult to remove, should it be necessary.

PVA will work! I do like the Latex caulk as it's a little more durable, but it comes right up with a putty knife. Happy Railroading!

I might look into N-scale just for a switching layout. Unitrack is handy, but the plastic fake ballast doesn't deaden sound at all.

IF Kato switches they use an electro-magnetic driver, so you either switch 'em manually or electronically using the magnet. I sure you could hook-up a servo to the manual lever, but you would have some bulky jigs topside to get the thrown right. Besides, to look "realistic" you'd have to have a conductor hop off and throw the switch, then hop back on. I really like the solid click sound they make, it's an audible signal that the switch worked. Cheers!

using extremely thin paint or oil paint washes is exactly how I paint tyres on wheels, its the most accurate way of ever doing this, and works on anything with a rim.

I'm currently considering buying this kit, as I'm just beginning to get back into the hobby after a 30 year hiatus and it's cheap on Ebay. Your results are great and I couldn't match your skills, maybe one day. I guess I'll give it a go, and try to get results 25% as nice as yours. Very nice diorama and build. I've subscribed.

Thanks! I got back into model building during a Covid layoff, so 4 years ago or so. The best advice, don'y judge your work by others, build what you like and paint to your own standards! That said, there are many wonderful channels out there to show you how to improve! Good luck with your journey and thanks for the sub.

@twitch1965 Thanks for the advice. I attempted to get back into the hobby during covid but I was staying with my partner at her place and didn't have a workspace or approval. Since last December I have been back at my place and am now getting in to the kits I have here. I have a good stash at my former partners but she's not parting with them, who knows why? No comment, she's probably sold them! Lol

From eBay, no original packaging, terrible casting... you have illegal counterfeits there. Did the eBay listing state that it was original "paracel miniatures"? Most of the times, counterfeit sellers show pics of original packaging but don't mention it in the title of description. I'm sure it was shipped from certain countries...

Hey there, sorry, no the kit does not come with paint. I used Vallejo paints from their Air Series through my airbrush. RLM 66 for the interior, RLM 76 under color and a combination of RLM 74/75 in a splinter camouflage combination.

How do you have access to the tunnel incase of a derailment?
@twitch1965
@twitch1965 7 ай бұрын
The section of tunnel liner is only 8-inches long, and the part that the mountain covers is 3 inches at most. You should be able to reach derailed car with your hands or a bamboo BBQ skewer at worst. If that failed, then you can cut away the tunnel liner, it only paper and a thing layer of plaster,, that would be easy to repair.

This is a very intriguing Me-163 diorama. I've seen photos of Me-262 jet fighters being towed by a team of horses or oxen, and the point is not lost: The most advanced aircraft at the time being towed by draft animals. In the case of the Me-262 jet, the Luftwaffe had low-grade fuel that the jets could use. But the Kettenkrads used as towing vehicles were more 'finicky,' and needed gasoline, which was in very short supply. But I've never seen an Me-163 rocket fighter model displayed this way. I suspect this is because most modelers would prefer to use the Scheuch-Schlepper that comes with the Academy kit, (as well as the earlier Heller kit,) for its visual interest in a diorama. Not only is your diorama excellent, it is very unique. 6th like.

Well thank you very much for the kind words, they really brightened my day! Love the bit of history as well. I'm going to use the little tracker (Scheuch-Schlepper, that's a fun set of words to say!) for something else, even if it's just a background piece of equipment.
